Designing a race car body using CATIA V5 and CFD Analysis

Post

Hi Guys,

I am new in this forum, so i want to say hi to all of you who reads this posting. I am currently working on a school project. my team is to build a race car. the team has already come up with the design of the chassis, but not the body.

I am responsible in designing the body, but i am still thinking on what is the best way of designing it. I was thinking of building the model using CATIA V5 and design the body parts by using Imagine and Shape on the model. I thought that this method is faster and more efficient since we can use the model to be put in the CFD as well.

What do you guys think? Any ideas? Thanx a lot

Generative shape design probably the easiest to get into, and should give you plenty of scope to do a decent body.

Start by constructing the major surfaces, then add in more detail as necessary. Model only half the car, except where you need it to be asymmetric (Remember to keep the surfaces at 90deg to the centreline, so it is smooth when you mirror!)

Consider how you will tool the body early on - having an idea how the whole thing will be constructed can help you decide how to model the body (Draft angles etc)
