Mercedes GP MGP W01

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Wwhere is the super duper diffuser?

If anything, i think one car will run with the new parts and the other one with the old stuff, for a comparison.
That diffuser in the pic is the exact same thing!

We have to see a side view to tell if there were any changes in the sculpture of the nose. The V ridges are looking much higher to me.
For Sure!!

Fantastic close up. We cannot see 50% of the diffuser as thats under the car, but what I can see is the upper deck now has a larger section that I havent noticed before.
Perhaps it is the same diffuser, I will wait till FP1/2, Brawn could be waiting.

I can also see Brawn run back to back comparisons quite easily. He did it 3 or 4 times last season when comparing new bits, and getting clearance from the FIA is a very swift affair as its only the diffuser that will be checked. the rest of the car has already being scrutineered.
More could have been done.

Note that the shape of the beam wing in the picture is dog leg.

Craig Scarborough wrote in his racecar engineering 'pre season testing round-up' that mercedes used in the last days of the barcelona test a beam wing with a straighter shape and without the supplementary flap in the middle as a preparation of the new diffusor http://www.racecar-engineering.com/arti ... nd-up.html.

Therefore I think we see in the picture the old 2009 diffusor respectively the diffusor from the tests.

Well spotted, Im 50/50 about this being the vaunted diffuser. Brawn would have nipped all that in the bud for a starter, and wouldnt have mentioned it on the formula1.com interview conducted last week.

Personally i think it is new, but its under the floor thats new at current, what feeds the DDD, there may be a massive leap there that we just aint seeing devoid of a craine shot of the car getting hoisted off the track.

Also, we are at a total loss without F1-Live and their Hi Res immages this year. Where else can we get decent high res immages of the cars for 2010???

for some reason the car does not seem to be as well put together like it's competitors in the top 4. I even think the Renault is much better refined but just lacking the performance.
Reason being, this car doesn't look too far of from last years car in suspension and aero.
Well i hope i am wrong, it's going to be painful seeing Shumacher being outrun by a red bull or ferrari.

Painful? Why? Sounding a bit fanboy-ish there aren't you Ringo? :)
