BMW Sauber F1.06

My first impressions:
- Judging from the video stream on their website, this car has a twin keel front suspension layout.
- Livery: I was a little surprised by the red stroke in the colour scheme. However, I think the scheme is quite dull and not up to BMW standards.
- Big Intel logo on the engine cover.

From the pictures ive seen looks like a keel-less front suspension like mclaren and toyota.

I believe the red comes from the old BMW touring cars livery

New engine
Revolution, not evolution was the watchword when it came to the Formula One engines for the new season. The 3-litre V10 units of the past are being replaced by 2.4-litre V8 engines. This switch calls for totally new concepts. The new V8 engines are heavier, shorter and, due to a 600 cc reduction in capacity, have lower output and fuel consumption.

New chassis
The BMW Sauber F1.06 is an all-new concept. The shorter and more fuel-efficient V8 powerplants exert a decisive influence on the architecture of the car. Due to the minimum dimensions for the design of the chassis as decreed by the FIA, the overall dimensions of the car remain almost unchanged.

The front end looks quite bulky or maybe its just the livery playing tricks with my eyes

Pff I don't like the colour scheme at all.

Anyway, the nose cone seems to be rather bulky, very with and big at the front. As for the front suspension I think they use 2 small keels. At least I hope, because if the nose is filled up completely between the lower wishbone connection points, this car does not really look efficient.

Also on the sidepods there are rather small shark gills, similar to those on the Renault R24.

Engine cover and general design looks 2 years old, except for the zero (or twin?) keel setup and the narrow sidepods (but last year's Sauber already had them).

Very low front end, doesn't allow pushrod to be quite as inclined as in the other cars, reducing pitch sensitivity of suspension. This is outdated F1 design, as I said before.

The car looks ugly, old and inefficient. A true Sauber, in short!!
The suspension is a twin-keel setup.

Keels

Post

I'm in the dark about keels. Can someone give me examples of the different types of keels on F1 cars.

Is it me or are the michelin tyres more "round" shouldered this year??

Or is it special "presentation" tyres on the BMW??
