Mercedes GP MGP W01

The 'new' diffuser looks to me like the simplest possible way to built it, just with the upper DDD part...

Could someone explain to me how the new rear wing works?
For me it looks like something is "missing" in the middle part of the wing.
There may be a lot more to this new wing than expected. During P2 on Friday, one of the SpeedTV announcers was going on about how the wing did not shed vortices as other cars. It appears the new holes and vents in the rear wing may actually allow it to perform like an F-duct, but without driver intervention. If so, this system would not be banned in 2011 because it is not driver-controlled.

There are three intakes, one is a forward facing scoop (in the middle of the upper wing element), while the other two reside on the sides of the bulges. This is interesting because the forward facing scoop can easily sense dynamic pressure, while the two side holes do not.

I wonder if increasing velocity would build more static pressure where those two holes reside, to the point where they actually become more like controls for a fluidic switch? Hey, I'm no trained aero guru, can this new development be scrutinized by more worthy and competent aero geeks? Somehow I think this new wing may be some golden piece of new kit, and Mercedes are preparing for next year, where driver-controlled aero devices are going to be banned.
Racing should be decided on the track, not the court room.

There must be airways on the inside of those bulges. It's almost like a U-turn inside the bulges.

actually such thing was done last year on the mclarens and the saubers.

This hole is in the 15cm rule, where such things are allowed. Due to the 90 degree angle of theses bulges they can go out of that 15cm rule and make effectively a wider slot.

What this does is simple, it opens as an 15cm slot but ends as an full width slot.

These bulges allows air under them, so under jaw conditions the wing can catch more air preventing it from stalling. Effectively you can say that the wing is built to stall, but in turns it will get more flow preventing an stall.

Mclaren did such thing in a biggewr way this year in Barcelona and running the same wing again this weekend, it also has these 90 degree turned ducts, but far more to the end plate side thus grabbing even more air.

word of mention there

Ambient temps raised from 19°C to 22°C from FP3 to Q Sessions
Track temp raised from 23°C to 31 °C ..I wonder where they do actually measure track temps ...so maybe it is well hotter than this in areas where bright sunshine hits the tarmac...

I guess the MERC does not like this or the pitguys have no clue how to adapt when track temps go up...well how to adjust pressure and blanket temps ..as there is not much else you are allowed to change in Q sessions..

I've also mentioned it before, the car just doesn't perform in hotter conditions in conjunction with the super-soft tyres. I think it's fair to say after Hungary they will not develop this car any further. Also, has their new revised F-duct actually helped? They are still very slow in the speed traps. Button 317.5 Ks, Mercs 308.5 and 308.3 Ks.

tarmac temp that is ..22ambient is not very hot....isn´t it?

but I would not even say 31 °C tarmac temp is really hot....it is just it raised by 8°C from FP3 ..What else would have changed till the morning slowing them down?
Rubber down as the track was washed out overnight again... so something do do with
not being able to make use of the track getting rubbered in ...

Again ..I remember Brittney talking about:The Merc guys not adjusting the car to the conditons but waiting for the conditions to improve ...So the other way round ...if the car fits when the track is green ...as the condtions change the car goes away...
I do not remember exactly ...but I think MERC was quite near the front in FP1/2 in those races were they struggled to find speed in Q?

Yeah! They ruined it when they gave Nico the yellow ones

Back to the car
First Renault, and now Williams outperformed Mercedes. What's wrong with this car? The team themselves can not develop their own car and it steps back at every race :wtf: The team lacks expertism as it seems so upgrades are not working.
