2.4l V8 v restricted 3.0l V10

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Which engine will be better in '06?

first of all im a new member here, but ive been a regular visitor to this site for some time now. i would like to say that i really like the way u people handle disscusions on here and the true passion you show for the sport. thanks for that!

i read this thread but cant get a final conclusion. can someone please explain exactly how many and which restrictions there are on the v-10? what exactly do they affect?
Toro-Rosso seems to have some good pace right now. liuzzi finished 6th in bahrain practice and the other teams are pretty worried...

In some ways the orginal question is academic as the FIA have made it pretty clear that they will do something about the V10's if they prove to be too fast - of course the definition of "too fast" has been left open. More than likely, it would be triggered by the sight of STR chasing down teams who are performing as expected with V8's and should be at the sharper end of the grid. I don't think for a minute people would care if STR beat Midland - STR might just have built a better car..........;)

AFIK the restriction is as follows:

A flat-plate air restrictor of 77mm diameter allied to a rev limit of 16,700rpm.

I assume that the rev limit notionally restricts power in a very direct manner and I would assume that the restrictor plate will prevent teams building ultra torquey motors as a "work around" for the power drop.

I think only Cosworth knows the answer to this one. If the STR's are too quick, Williams will surely be the first team to object.

It is physically impossible to just cut off two cylinders so they have restricted it as manchild stated.
