Anybody surprised with Juan Pablo Montoya's qualifying time, he set the fourth fastest time at 1:32.164, but he pitted in at lap 23, Shucmacher pitted at lap 15, Alsono at lap 19, Im quite surprised the speed that Mclaren had with there car. But I am more surprised that Williams had the fastest time, can that mean they have the strongest car in the field?
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?

Today, JPM did a Ralf. Although he had a great car, and should have lots of motivation, he just seemed content to just drive around with no fire or verve. The only reasons I could find out was "I have not really been totally comfortable with the set up of my car all weekend, which was clear during all the practice sessions."
I am a big JPm fan, but days like today confuse the heck out of me. I just don't understand how he finished where he did. Based on how fast his car should have been, then throw in the fact that he had what should have been an advantage on pit stop stratedgy. The only answer I can come up with was JPM just didn't cut it. Simple as that, Kimi should not have beaten him, but he did, which just continues to prove why JPM is number two at Mclaren. He consistantly lacks consistancy.
When comparing JPM and Kimi one should bare this in mind:
- Two race engine rule
- Kimi didn't do much laps with his engine on qualifying, JPM did
Both of those engines have to last in Sepang so if what Kimi did was right is yet to been seen. Perhaps Montoya drove slower but perserved his engine for race to come.

thats just an excuse. if you were a racing driver, the first thing which comes to mind is to race and get the best position possible. once thats done then you can think of conserving your car or the team can tell him to do that. thats exactly wat kimi did. he raced as much as he could and got himself up to the best possible position he could. once he knew he could not catch alonso and micheal and tought it was pointless then he backed off and preserved the car, as what he said in the post race press conference. Thats smart driving. what montoya did was honestly underperform. He had a good position and what should have been a good strategy. Yet he ended the race where he started it. on 5th place. he did not show any steal or any metal to get the race going and get on with it. And he cannot used the excuse that he is new to mclaren and is not used to thier cars (as what he used last year). he probably did more testing on this car then kimi did. yet again kimi does a blistering thing and montoya just seemed like a poped blister.
don't get me wrong he is a good driver, but never the consistent one. we've seen it even when he was in williams. ups and down. and when things don't work for him down he goes. when things do then he is up. comparison, down or up kimi still does the job and amazes us all. i can see why ron has said nothing of renewing montoya's contract cos it seems he got himself another DC...(:P sori DC fans)
and can see why ron snapped up alonso when he got the chance. if everything goes well he has the fastest driver on the curcit(kimi) and a very good leader (alonso) in his team. we'll just have to wait and see.

Don't forget that Montoya said that his car is slower 7km/h by same revs and with same setup and therefore he asked for change of engine while Ron refused that. So, JPM was driving the car he got obviously with not much good vibrations in team.
Indeed, that is a huge difference.
We have seen a similar thing at Renault with Fisico being 10km/h slower on the straight, and look what a difference that was in the race between him and Alonso. He was overtaken by a Williams
Montoya, although not confortable with the car and possibly with a weak engine, did a consistent race. He raced people that catched him with much less fuel and made stable lap times. Of course, Kimi made a fantastic race and it's too easy to compare them both, but please don't crucify JPM already.

This was my initial thought and if so he will have the same problem in Maylasia

Thats a very naive thing to say. If you race like you are suggesting, whith no thought to future races with this 2race engine rule, you will never be champion. A champion needs to look not just at his race but also the championship. Why do you think Schumi settled for second place about 2-3 las from the end, he didnt want to over stress the engine for malaysia & he didnt want to chash and loose second place just for a win...that would just be glory hunting.
Kimi pushed his car hard because he qualified in 20th place...he NEEDED to get some pionts to make up for this. Montoya did not, Montoya could run a routine race.

Thats right, 7kph at a circuit like Bharain with its long straights it A LOT. Also notice how Ron refused the engine change??? He too was thinking about the championship...not just glory in this one race.
