Hello everyone, I follow this site for a while now and I like it very much!
(Excuse my English, please, it is not my first language...)

McLaren finally said there are problems with Montoya's engine:

"McLaren will begin investigations this week in a bid to get on top of the minor engine problems that marred Juan Pablo Montoya's Bahrain Grand Prix weekend.
The Colombian suffered from engine mapping issues that left him down on power compared to teammate Kimi Raikkonen when the engine was in certain modes - and that played a part in his disappointing start to the campaign.
...
We have a number of different modes of operation with the engine. We have economy, super economy and full mode and certainly in the lesser modes of control there was something in the engine that we were trying to track down all weekend that gave him a slight element of disadvantage..."
“It’s frustrating, but we had the pace. It wasn’t bad luck. It was a reflection of our intensity of development.” - Ron Dennis

Well, if that's true, it explains a lot. Although earlier in the week Montoya complained about a lack of power, and Ron Dennis replied that it was the same as Kimi's, maybe it was found lacking. I was surprised at Montoya's lack of impact on the race, he usuallly doesn't do a Ralf (lay down and whimper if he's in a snit).
We shall see next week. If JPM is the kind of guy I think he is, he will come out with something to prove.

Well I just found this story and to me it explains alot.

It is obviuse that Mclaren has made up there mind to give Kimi the best chance at winning the championship which is why they did not replace the sled
(mercedez engine) in the back of his car. 7km slow. Montoya was willing to give up 10 places for a fresh engine because he knew that would make more differance. :x

Montoyo was not happy with the setup. Also not happy with the engine.

Mclaren refused because of backlash it will have on Mercedes! Another thought may be in Ron's mind was the fact that Montoyo cannot do a Kimi! I feel, they have ruined Montoyo's chances for KL too.

Kimi will definetly move out as you cannot have two potential winners in a team. Mclaren by taking Alonso has signalled they want to go into 2007 campaign with Alonso as their No1!

Why? tell me Why kimi should accept an offer which makes him No2?

McLaren was never a team that would jeopardize on purpose anyone's chances. Put simple, since the team didn't found any mechanical problem on the engine of JPM they didn't replace it. End of story. They would seem very amateurish if they had done it, put JPM 10 places down and discover that the problem in the car remained, because it wasn't engine-related...
