2004 BMW Williams Steering Wheel - What's on it?

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

2004 BMW Williams Steering Wheel - What's on it?

Post

Hey guys, first post :)

Since january 2004 I am a modeller working on mods for the rFactor and F1 Challenge racing games, in a search of reference of the 2004 Williams car, I came across various pictures of the steering wheel. I was wondering if anyone knew what all these informations on it means?

This is my best guess :

N : Gear
99: speed limit?(Saw 85 and 80 aswell)
13.1V : Voltage of the electrical circuit?
1,9L: Average fuel consumption? Seems quite low and isn't that supposed to be in kg? Encountered 2,6L too
110C : Engine temperature? Seen one with 79C too.
224B : ?? Also found 260B

Hope someone can give a proper answer, to erase doubts for good!

Thanks
Koen

Sorry, Im not here to answer your question but for make another one for all the F1 fanatics...

Why the current F1 cars don't use those dashboards anymore? And look at those buttons, now replaced with switches.

Can someone explain a bit?

2004 electronics were virtually unrestricted. Today all teams use MES standard ECUs which allows a certain functionality which is defined in narrow limits. Teams can parametrize functions which is done by engineers uploading maps and by drivers by using dials and switches. With the SECU much needs to be done by the driver which used to be automated. This is why we see so many dials on modern steering wheels compared to then.
Formula One's fundamental ethos is about success coming to those with the most ingenious engineering and best .............................. organization, not to those with the biggest budget. (Dave Richards)

Switches/dials have been around for a long time now, as shown by the Ferrari steering wheels in this thread: Ferrari Steering Wheel Evolution.

A button means that it only has one setting, while a switch has multiple.

Buttons can also toggle many settings within a function just like a dial does, the display will let the driver know which setting he is on.

OK Seeing how it's been awhile and nobody has attempted to answer you, I will give it a ring.
I believe in that shot you posted, we are looking at one of the screens in a test sequence. I have seen other F1 cars that do that, kinda like when you start your car and it tells you if a door is open?
It looks like they/it may be on an electronics related screen. I may be wrong but I think I am correct. Either way I tried, good luck modeling! Also a hobby of mine!
