Shaped steering wheel

Post

Image

This is a picture of Jacques Villeneuve's steering wheel, it's shaped as his hands. I didn't know that they did that! Race seats, that I knew, like everybody else I think, but that the steering wheel is shaped specific for a driver I didn't know. Does anyone has more information or pictures of other drivers steering wheel who have it too?

The Ferraris don't, neither do Mclaren.

Thats the first one I've ever seen.

Villeneuves steering wheel has been like that for a few years now.

Berger in 1997 did race at least once with a moulded steering wheel.

I know JV uses one paddle to shift up and shift down, the top part of the paddle shifter shifts up and the bottom part shifts down, I think he is the only f1 driver to do that.
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

Here are some pics I've saved before, first one is R24 and another one BAR (could be Villeneuve).

Got to be gentle with something that costs 70.000 euros! (slightly OT since this one isn't shaped)

For each driver, ergonomics can be important. Obviously for Jacques, he considers it important for everything to fit right and be comfortable. Emerson Fittipaldi used to spend literally hours and hours just sitting in his car cockpit, checking everything and making sure everything felt right and was adjusted perfectly to his desires.

Ferrari, or at least Schuey has this for several years. I wouldn't be surprised if all the other teams have tried it.
Williams used to have different diameter wheels for Montoya and Ralf Schu.

I think Jacques is the only driver to do that. Most drivers use one paddle to shift up and another to shift down.

JV uses one paddle, pulls it back towards him to shift up, and pushes it forward to shift down.

I find that Jacques Villeneuve's steering wheel is very interesting. It's smart too...i guess you have even more grip and control over the steering wheel.

What do you think it's made of??....cause it doesn't seem like metal or rubber.
