1) Is there any advantages for a team being first or last in the pit garage?

2) When the race is about to start, are the cars that are in the top four positions in a disadvantage as they have to wait for the other cars to line up which means there engines are starting to overheat?
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

1) Well, I remember Pat Symonds explaining recently that the team in the first/last garage have the advantage of a clear entry or exit of the pits, wich means no risks to be stucked behind another car.

2) I don't think the real issue is engine overheating, because nothing force them to keep the throttle on while waiting for others to line up, but it can lead to a waste of heat in the tires I think. I've often thought about this, the warm up lap is more efficient for the back of the grid.

I agree. But it's not very important.

I agree for the tires : they actually lost a lot of warm.
For the engine, I think it isn't good to stay to long. So being the last has it advantages : better tire temperature and less risk for engine.
Renault the BEST !!!

The team closer to the pit exit have the advantage of the tires cooling off less while traversing the pit lane, they just travel a few meters then are on the track and up to full chat.

I think in the heat of Malaysia especially with engines that rely on forced air to cool the car down when travelling at speed, at a standstill the top 4 don't want to stick around as the engine starts to overheat, they want to get a way as quick as possible.

But for the tires I can remember last year when Ferrari were frustrated with other Michelin teams for not allowing them to warm up the tires as they would of liked on the warm up lap, thus being disadvantaged for the first few laps.
