Come on JET...... They get one lap and then a drop-off of at least two or three seconds instantly, and they're only out for five. How soft do you think those tyres were?

What planet is this now? Planet Red Bull? Or do they simply fill your goldfish bowl full of the substance?

First off, the grid does not constitute ONLY Red Bull. Get this into your psyche.

And even using last years dissapointing year of finishing 4th, how is the "grid leaving them behind"?
Their is no legitimacy in the question, as it preconcieves Mercedes are trailing all teams. The fact is only three teams finished ahead of them.
I dont really expect you to understand this, as excessive Taurine may be sending you into anti Mercedes hyperbole.

Stand back, breathe, and realise you made a big mistake writing this team off.
More could have been done.

They were softs. No supersofts at testing. Everyone has a large dropoff post their hot lap. See the times compared to Ferrari and notice their consistency. Nice try =D>

You've read wrongly I'm afraid. All the compounds are available at this test for evaluation. Perez set his time on them yesterday.

Why do people keep mentioning Red Bull when they're not mentioned as well? There are other teams on the grid that have moved their front wings on besides Red Bull...... It seems as though Mercedes have wheeled out the 'new' old front wing from the Brawn days as well to convince us all they're doing something different. :D

Wrong again Seg:

"All four Pirelli compounds have been available in the winter tests held so far. But for this week's Catalunya session only the hard and soft tyres will be in use"

As for this "New Old Wing" business you are seriously out of your head now mate. Small similarities yes, but that's where it ends.

Err.. guys, i don't exactly agree with Seg's notions either, but it hardly helps your anti-Seg cause when you selectively quote a misinterpretation and then gloat about it.
The proper quote from Pirelli's Paul Hembery, (not the journalist's misjudged view) reads,

"Having announced our compounds for the start of the year, most of the teams will concentrate on testing the hard and soft PZero tyres"

The inference remains that all compounds have still been available. In fact, Renault used all 4 compounds on Thursday: Link.

It's been interesting, the Mercs long stint times have been good since the first test.

In the eyes of the betting money Mercedes have caught McLaren now.

Image

I think that is realistic. A lot depends of the development direction of McLaren.

Well, it's actually McLaren falling back to Mercedes rather than Mercedes catching up but the result is the same.

I don't agree. McLaren are falling back but Merc have definitely made a performance jump of about one second.

No matter what Seg or anyone else is reading into the performance of Mercedes but there are some undebatable facts:
Barcelona is the track that will show the quality of a car and Mercedes looked good herenot only in single laps but as well on long stints.
Schumacher clearly stamped his authority on Friday. If anyone of the lesser teams had something in the bag they ´d have tried to match those times.Even Alonso tried to counter...Maybe they just let Merc have their famous 5 minutes .But still they were the ones with the quickest times so far.

Schumachers best time was posted during a 5lap stint.

We don´t know what Red bull has in the bag still.

The Merc does not look like a finished product when compared to Ferrari ,RedBull or Mclaren .

to me there are clear indications Merc are more likely to have closed the gap to Ferrari than they don´t have a clue and are tailenders.

People don't realize when they say the same negative things over and over and louder and louder, their opinions actually become more silent as on the internet words have no volume unless you read them, and if you already know what the words are going to be from the posters name and history, why bother reading them?

Either way, the performance naysayers of MGP, unless completely off their rockers, should realize that they are no longer lost, and possibly never were.

It's still testing, but things are starting to solidify. This is shaping up to be a good season, and Mercedes seem to be turning Brawnda into a good team.
