HRT F111 Cosworth

Holy shiz, they look really similar, so that's how far HRT are behind?
That Brawn wing is probably the best design IMO. It's a good base to start especially since they can just use the W02 updates as a development guide. Very clever by whoever the head designer is.

Thanks for clarification.

Tire degredation this year will limit the HRT drivers (and everyone else) to only two or three serious flying laps in Q1. Good thing Geoff Willis already has gray hair.

Any word if they're planning to do a "camera day"? iirc you're allowed to do 100km on such a day which should be plenty for a shakedown.

Well everyone's converging on the endplate design Brawn had in 2009 anyways, except now it seems that they're adding other winglets towards the inside. (eg McLaren/Red Bull have an "outer" cascade with a Brawn-2009 like shape, but a 2nd winglet thing inside, which Merc themselves are using now)

I believe Geoff Willis is doing the design no? Wasn't he the QA guy who also worked at Red Bull in 2009? But I believe Geoff is an aero guy by trade and not exactly an aero/eliability guy.

geoff willis worked under Newey at williams(coming from March!) and was the Aeroguy there.Gavin Fisher reponsible for the mechanical side. They led williams as a pair when newey left for Mclaren.Willis then went to BAR and was the TD when the team raised it´s game but for whatever reason in 2006 got moved away from responsibility. He was then TD at REDBULL working again with Newey. But also got sacked .
I think Willis is less the adventurer then realist and maybe the strongest guy in terms of making an outfit click in terms of all people performing at max.
He really has insight into the latest development trends and MUST have a lot of knowledge of inner affairs in REDBULL that led to their rise of recent.
So my guess is the HRT is top notch but in a simplified manner.
Willis said about the Dallara it was a disappointment and years behind in terms of technology and expectations. But still with all those unexperienced not top notch drivers and nil development it was not miles behind Wirth or Gascoyne...Now
HRT had a lot of insight in TF110 ,and willis insight in RedBull .I bet this car is good.

In Scarbs' views of the car, he says that Paul White who was at Honda has come to the team and might have brought this FW design with him.

Useful info about HRT:

2011 Budget? euro 45 million.
2011 budget completely in place? No; potential sponsors still being addressed. Team owner claims willingness to supply missing budget if sponsors not found.

Chassis design (monocoque) carry over from last year's Dallara? Yes.

Does team owner give confident answers about racing in Australia? Yes.

Link is from infamous GMM service, but appears to be based on direct quotes from the team owner.

Aren't HRT entitled to some test mileage before the first race? I mean since they are in Barclena can't they just test there for a few days then hop over to Australia?

From what ive heard they are trying to orginise a shakedown day for both the chassis they currently have, as the cars are in Germany at one of Kolles factories, id recon it will be a lesser German track arround the Cologne area as the main Hispania factory is only about 50km away from Cologne.

Im not sure if they could use EuroSpeedway Lausitz as it could be used for straight line testing, but its near the Chech border, the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben could be used for a shakedown as well. Nürburgring is about 70km away from Colgne and would be ideal, but is the track conditions correct as the weather conditions there could still be poor this time of year.

Time is also agains the team as the cars need to be ready for picking up by DHL at arround 7PM GMT (6PM CET) on Thursday night otherwise the cars and the resto of the air freight simply wont make it to Austrailia in time, as most teams are already taking to Melboourne their Euro A track setup kit with the cancelation of Bahrain.

Will the cars have a shakedown, yes, but it will be in FP1 at Bahrain as Hispania seemingly had 2 cars avalable in Barcelona for shakedown, if the got their Penskie dampers out of customs.

What are the exact rules for a shakedown and how do the FIA police them? Could HRT have a Private shakedown without any media around either in Barcelona or Germany?

Shakedowns can be any chassis to have up to 100Km on it before it races. Whitch is arround 24laps of the Ricardo Tormo track in Valencia or 19/20 laps of Nurburgring. Whitch is more or less exactly one third distance of the German GP race this year at the same venue. Many teams wish to take advantage of a shorter track with this however, so to get more laps in and gain more data, so it could be feaseable if Hispania were to do a Shakedown of 2 chassis at Nurburgring they could do so with the shorter DTM layout, and the old first chicane as well to miss out the 458m section thats called the Mercedes Benz Arena now. If it were Silverstone a team would use the National track layout, and if it were Suzuka for example, they would miss from the top of the esses to the final chichane, and just use the 2.248km East Circuit.

Teams can conduct a shakedwon without media present, and is more common theese days as teams usually combine them with TV days as well to maximise the distance to 150km. But i belive that there has to be a qualified member of the FIA there, but i need full clarification on the shakedown rules as im sure a team can only use a single chassis per day.

So -HRT did not not test their car...they did and quite extensively as the tub and engine installation rearsuspension and wing(?) were already tested in 2011.
They just missed their test of the -non -Vanilla- car .
I don´t get why them old dampers would not fit? they had the complete rearend already on the last test ...so they had dampers mounted then?
The tub is Still dallara-why couldn´t they mount the dallara shocks or at least adapt them -I cannot imagine the difference is that big it was physically impossible to mount them with decent effort. No backup solution when travelling to Barcelona ?...
Colin has to control even more by himself methinks

The tub isn't the Dallara.. it may be based on the Dallara.

Colin Kolles Supports cutting grid to 10 teams? I thought it’s quite strange that he said that, Either He must be very confident with HRT’s next car or he has probably given up on HRT totally. Maybe Kolles knows something we don’t about 2 other teams.
