HRT F111 Cosworth

Lets give HRT a little bit of credit, they still far surpassed USGP
though it is dissapointing a formula 1 team in their 2nd year still cant manage to have a running chassis for the first FP1

We did and there was also discussion about it's concept being brought by former Honda employee, who also conceptualised BGP001 front wing.

HRT battling to get out in FP2
grandprix.com wrote:This year's HRT, overseen by technical consultant Geoff Willis, is an updated version of last year's monocoque, including new crash panels, mated to a Williams gearbox, a newly-designed rear end and significant front suspension changes and a new aero package. The new front wing, however, has not been completed in time and the team will run the old one in Australia.

Team principal Colin Kolles came through Australian immigration with a lot of boxes containing car parts and the team is currently battling to get one of its cars out in FP2, but there is no chance of the second car running before Saturday.

As zgred quoted, HRT are running their old front wing. Interestingly in the Autosport report they say the new front wing has not passed the crash test thats why they are not using it yet.

This brings me to my question, Am i right in thinking that Nose's need to be crash tested and not wings?, also am i also right in thinking that Noses are Homoginised?

Give i am right on all of these parts, does that not mean they are stuck with this nose?

Please let me know if i am wrong on any of the above, its been a long winter and there have been a lot of changes.

I'm sure if the wing has failed its crash test, they will continue with it until its passes the crash test.

how can a wing fail a crash test?
all it needs to do is smash into bits
its not a safty component?

( im not trying to sound like a smart ass )
but what do they look for in a crashing wing?

It needs to strike a balance. If it crushes too easily, it won't absorb any collision energy, and the energy will go straight to the driver's footwell, and hence, the driver. It has to be strong enough to absorb the energy.

The nose is the crash absorbing structure, and is what's homologated. No way the wing can absorb anything of significance in a frontal collision.

But seriously, as much spin as HRT are putting out about the team being fine, the inability to have the entire car homologated and produced by this point is quite telling, no?

McLaren and Pirelli in better shape than expected
Hispania managed to do a single out lap after the mechanics had worked day and night for several days to get the cars ready. Tonio Liuzzi managed to get out of the pits right at the end of the second session. The front wing has had problems with crash tests and so the 2010 front wing is here, which the car has not been designed around, so it’s a real uphill struggle for them.
Same thing from different source.
