Saw this on a forum

"Exciting project reveiled a couple of days ago. Some hot entrepeneur over here in Belgium bought a Carrera GT and is going to change it into a fullblood racecar. It's going to take some time ofcourse because nothing really excist specifically for the CGT and they won't get support from Porsche.

Yesterday i was in Spa-Francorchamps and i saw the car because they are going to explore it's capabilities in a national Belcar-race. Everything is standard at the moment so that will be interesting.

In the future they will decide in which championship they will compete when the car is finished, possibilities are: Le Mans, LMES, FIA GT and Belcar.

I don't know how the Maserati MC12 did in FIA GT last year, but when they tried out for Super GT, they suffered horribly due to aerodynamics. That may be the case for the Carrera.
Bring back wider rear wings, V10s, and tobacco advertisements

The Carrera GT began life as a proposal for a Le Mans race car. Instead, along the way it became an exotic road legal car. But it's basic design was for racing, and it shows. A 5.7 liter V-10 putting out 605 hp. Carbon fiber monocoque, and a road weight of 3040 pounds. So when this beast gets stripped of it's civilised gear and modified for the track, it will be fun to watch.

Most of the Super GT field is made up of the basically prototype racers from the Japanese makers. The rules in a more traditional GT series, instead of what I consider to be more a silhouette series, should allow the CGT to be more competitive. However, there are factory teams to contend with, which is the problem the MC12 ran into here in the US in the ALMS. It just could not keep up with the factory Vettes. The MC12 won several races last year in FIA GT including Monza and Spa and was near the front of the field for pretty much the whole season.

Problem with CGT though compared to MC12, is that MC12 made no real pretention of being a road car. The car was based on Enzo's chassis, but the aero work was redone completely with racing in mind(so much so that it was pretty much outlawed from the get go as the dimension of the car is outside of the rule....), obviously still not as purpose built as a pseudo GT/real prototype Super GT car, but still a lot more purpose built than the Carrera GT I think.

Belcar over the years have turned out a lot of the one-off production based car for the series, so regardless of whether competitive or not, the CGT racer should be interesting...

I wonder how Porsche will take this.
I read some other story recently about them refusing to give any technical blueprints (or something vaguely like that) to a racing team as they did not want the car racing since the time they abandoned that purpose themselves.

I vaguely remember Porsche specifically forbidding the team (whatever it was) from racing and going to court.

But that last bit could well be in my imagination, so don't believe it instantly.
