TTE Celica Turbo Cheating

Post

Hi!

Has anybody more detailed information on the device, Toyota has installed in the '95 Celica in order to circumvent the restrictor.

I've found a drawing from Peter Wright and some simple explainations, but I long to find more than this.

Thanks to all, Matt

Sounds interesting.

Care to share what you've already found, Matt?

But i would be nice to have some additional information, who this stuff is working.

BTW I find this a really genious piece of engineering.

but it´s cheating and they got cought...a really blatant case really.
Really ingenious would be to have the thing doing unallowed things AND beeing able to keep it secret.

Matt21, I think the provided links are really self explaining ! :)

On a side note I had a turbocharger for my escort cosworth that also had some kind of cheating feature, I will post some pictures later this week when I have more time to write a little speech about it !

Well, rumour has it that someone 'in the know' blew the whistle to the scrutineers.
Otherwise I very much doubt anyone would have been able to find the trick.

As I started my new job, I realized that Diter Bulling (ex-TD of TTE) is working as freelancer for my company. :D
Will try to get more information on this topic.

Nice Matt, would be nice to know if he's still a bit nostalgic or not ! Where are you working btw ? :)

I had a look at the pictures I have from the turbo I talked about earlier, and unfortunately I only took pictures of the housing and not the restrictor (which was modded too) but you'll get the idea behind it.

So the principle is that air can bypass the restrictor (as you can imagine) and go through the machining work that was done to the housing AND the restrictor. So the engine gets more air. It was discovered of course but maybe that trick is new to people here !
