Ferrari - All change at next GP?

Post

Is it just me that thinks from now on the Ferrari (MS) is going to be very fast from the next race onwards?

I have read they will be using lots of new parts including the engine (does anybody have more info on this?). Its not just that, that makes me think they will be fast, it's the fact MS says they will be fast. He never 'big's it up' unless he knows full well what the situation will be. He also now has that little smile he uses when he knows full well he will be quick.

He didn't even seem bothered about the first races, as if they were not even part of the seasons plans.

Everyone always talks about being better and faster for the next race. You have to take it with a grain of salt. But I do believe the basic Ferrari package is almost competitive. And since they put in a lot of effort in this last week's testing, I tend to believe they will have a much better showing than in Australia.
However, the Renault team seems to be one step ahead of everyone else, it's hard to pick out any basic weaknesses (apart from Fisi's inconsistency). There are a lot of teams, Mclaren, Williams, Honda, and Ferrari who are almost 100% competive, they just seem to lack the ability to put in a solid race weekend. But any one of those teams could show up with the magic bullet, and suddenly show that necessary improvement for a solid win.

With the start of the european season of F1 there will always be a new modifications for the team, just remember last year at the san marino gp renault introduced those front wing ears that every other team is using, so you never know what will happen
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

Is it just me or does that camera mount on the nose have some angle of attack to generate lift..?

Lets hope for the drivers sake that it doesn't generate lift!

They all look like DownForce to me.

If it created lift she would become airbourne on the straights.

Firstly, I'm guessing he meant negative lift. And secondly I think the shadow gives that false impression R1ceboy.

Nope, i meant lift. Symetric aerofoil will produce no lift or downforce when they are parallel with the airflow (or in the case of cars the ground). When the angle is above the ground, we would produce lift, pointed downard would be downforce. In this case the amount of lift would be very small, but it is lift none the less which is why it is intresting.

It is possible the camera fairing is at a positive angle to the relative airflow. But it's not very wide, and if there is any lift generated, very small. What may be more relevant is what this does to the airflow further downstream. Usually air coming off the front wing is accelerated upwards, creating a low pressure zone behind them. This camera fairing may deflect the air along the side of the nose back down, or at least keep it from travelling any further upwards. So along the side of the nose, the air is travelling relatively more parallel to the ground than without the camera fairing. To me, it appears this relatively small angle to the camera fairing may give the radiator intakes a larger mass of air.
Sometimes a small strake or fairing may contribute little in iteslf, but may have a much larger impact further downstream.
