I am tired of writing and sympathizing with test drivers.the poor guys do deserve drives so I was wondering if teams can be allowed to run their third or even the fourth driver in qualifying and then let the top 2 run in the race. It would make qualifying really interesting and also give a chance to the test drivers to show if they are as good as the regular guys
Cost is the only problem, however a third more advertising space!
Then again with nearly 30 teams interested for '08, perhaps we should stick with what we've got and ketanpaul idea.
I like it a lot though.
Murphy's 9th Law of Technology:
Tell a man there are 300 million stars in the universe and he'll believe you. Tell him a bench has wet paint on it and he'll have to touch to be sure.
Seems seducing to me too. However I'm sure if we dig a little we'll find tons of problems in doing so. And still, there would be no guarantee that some teams do not spoil the game by unfairly advantaging their titular n°1driver, as it is allready the case with only two titular ones...
I can see the team telling the 3rd driver to block a driver or slow down if another competitor is behind them during qualifying. They are the test driver and they can't say no or lose there seat.
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.
One of the reasons I would like such a thing is that it will really put a team's best results on the charts like if ferrari had run Luca Badoer instead of Massa, they might have had a Ferrari 1-2 as Badoer has covered god knows how many miles there.
May be Luca prefers testing. Atleast you dont have to stress a lot when testing, you just chill out and dont worry about some one trying to pass you for position.
That is not the point...........what i meant was that many test drivers are deparate for racing and are always saying how good they are compared to the regular guys, this would give them an even chance

I would be extremly surprised that some drivers preffers testing than racing. Racing is obviously the ultimate goal of every driver. That said, I know Olivier Pannis have declinned offers from Toyota and effectivly preffers testing, but I think his family may have put pression on him to do so after his huge crash at Monaco left him shocked, maybe he won't have the guts to really push anymore. Anyway that is a particular case, I'm sure Luca wouldn't hesitate to accept a racing seat if the occasion arise, as would any other test driver.
Hey, good idea! Imagine: Schumi and Alonso as main drivers and Kimmi as test driver would be the minimal pilot configuration for championship. This could save some money...
Besides, Jarno would be relegated to test/qualifier immediately.
