Renault R31

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

you always face economic tradeoffs.
I think the KERS area is one were you will drain lots of money for little return .
To me the renault exhaust does not look very integrated into the tub its more like a packaging and isloation exercise along the stepplane as you will inevitably have the drivers bum negating any possibility to tuck in the exhaust pipes completely into the tub crossection .

I think the biggest problem with all the fancy exhaust stuff is to get useful data from the windtunnel and cfd with all the different flow temperatures interactions so it will be easy to get lost when you split your recources developing more than one concept.

So that was the last race were R31 could achive some proper pace.

Wont be surprised if Renault is gonna fight now with Williams and Sauber

Actually its not R31 fault, there's no one who can drive this car.

the car has underperformed in Monaco and now Valencia ..Renault has lost all its traction and corner exit strength and is really now a high downforce in medium to quick corner car.

Alan Permane:
We have certainly been struggling on circuits with low speed corners, so we hope that the high speed turns of Silverstone will mark an upturn in performance.

The air skirts are not as effective at low speeds.

yup. FEE dosn't work in slow and medium corners very well, and now with new regulations will work even worse. They tested the R31 with the new regulations in Duxford on Friday. One thing is certain, there was work on the back of the car. now it looks like an exhaust solution "at the Red Bull."

Yes. Look behind the logo of E.I. Sturdza, there is a kind of "ball" with, it seems, sensors.

I am not seeing where they ditched it. the rear exit pipe is not on the left side of the car.
It may be a comparison.

What i do see is the ferrari style shields under the nose.

yea i cant really tell much from those picks since the barge boards block the view of the exhaust exit (fee) on all the picks... inconclusive i think.
Plus theres some fast corners in silverstone so i think it could help to leave it on regardless of the 10% blowing off-throttle rule

They have black heat resistant patches at the rear of the side pods.
