Nurburgring Preview

Post

Jenson Button / Honda
http://www.f1technical.net/news/2725

"... Apart from a podium at the Nürburgring two years ago, I haven't had that much success at this track. It's a very low grip circuit with a lot of corners off-camber so when you arrive into the corner, it's vital to get the correct line..."

Willy Rampf / BMW
http://www.f1technical.net/news/2720
"The last two races have shown how crucial it is to make optimum use of the tyres so as to exploit the full potential of the car. The Nürburgring track offers plenty of grip, and rubber wear isn't too extreme, which means we will be using a relatively soft compound..."

...Rrriiiiiiggghhhtttt....

An illustration of a driver's and engineer's points of view, I guess.

It could have made sense if the Nürburgring was a low downforce circuit. But according to some other threads on this forum it's not.

So... anyone got an explanation?

Well JB's low grip statement and Rampf's statement about low tire wear both jive. Rampf also added: "Cars tend to suffer understeer on this track." But I think the difference is in how the two perceive the problem. JB's thinking about the lower speed sections and Rampf the higher speed ones???

That is an interesting contradiction joseff.
