Ide got in over his head, and is trying, but making mistakes. Because right now SA don't have many spare cars for practice, Sato has been getting most of the important seat time. That's politics, and remember, Sato is there in SA because of politics.
With the current car, SA are definitely the slowest team, and they consistently qualify at the back. But strangely enough, they want to compete, and SA seem to have two strategies in place. The first is just to finish the race, regardless. The second is the banzaii the start, and hopefully pass a few cars before the racing settles down, and then hopefully hold position.
I remember when Ralf first came to F1, he was a terror, making all kinds of mistakes and wrecking cars. The fact that his last name was Schumacher gave him some breathing room, and he eventually settled down.
The way the rules are currently (yup, let's talk about Max), there are some very slow cars on the track. In an effort to fill a shrinking grid, they threw out the 107% rule, and it doesn't matter how quick you are (or aren't), but whether you can afford to play the game.
There are scores of good drivers (Bourdais for example) who are quick end good enough to qualify for F1, but the politics (SA having only Japanese racers) that create this situation where a well intentioned but underqualified driver is racing in the premier motorsports series, and now taking others out, as well becoming the proverbial mobile chicane.
Yuji Ide "Firstly, I would like to apologise again to Christian for what happened in Imola and I very much hope that he is ok. I am new to Formula One and have had very little running in the car, so I have been trying to drive safely and to improve with every race. For the European Grand Prix I have been studying the Nürburgring circuit very closely by watching videos of the past races and learning the race lines. I am looking forward to the race and hopefully will be able to show some improvements."
This guy can be a test river instead of a race of driver
I don't know. He still seems to be able to get the girls
Murphy's 9th Law of Technology:
Tell a man there are 300 million stars in the universe and he'll believe you. Tell him a bench has wet paint on it and he'll have to touch to be sure.
I can't remember. Hints are nowadays very popular method used by FIA although I think they are not official mean of correspondence. FIA can take someone’s superlicence or leave it but hints are not part of the procedure. Basically, they are sucking up to those teams Mosley finds as necessary for survival of F1 in case of GPMA breakaway.
Oh well....I think that they did the right thing by hinting Super Aguri about other driver. I'm sure there were a lot of complains about Ide's driving style and the fact that he causes incidents (like the huge crash of Albers!)!
It's better to replace a dangerous driver than to wait until accidents happen where people are injured or worse...killed!
I also believe that Super Aguri will get much more back from Montagny! He is a good driver, he knows how an F1 car has to work and is used to give feedback to the engineers!
It's a good thing for Montagny! He was threatened of beeing forgeted, but finally he get plenty of action and media exposure this year. I hope the french journalists will stop crying night and day they don't have a french driver in F1...
Yes Ide was inexperimented and dangerous but caution! Montagny isn't an experimented race driver (in formula one). If he makes some rookie mistake and hit another car, he could follow the same way to exit. He didn't drive the car even once, and will be fitted immediatly in the race seat, so the most important thing for him will not be to finish before Sato, but to put a very clean drive without mistakes to show his employers they made the right decision.
