Grand Prix Return to Long Beach?

Post

Have any of you over there heard the rumor of F1 returning to the Long Beach street course? Is there any validity to it?

F1 should have an oval to keep it international. Also I would like to see them take on the corkskrew at Laguna Seca.

I'll recomend Michigan International Speedway with a 19 degree banking. :D

F1 shouldn't have an oval because 60% of viewers would switch off lol!

Oval racing...madness.

Besides when Mansell went to the IRL he proved Oval racing really isnt quite as hard as F1 (by winning the championshp in his first season).

What about the old Monza circuit. Wasn't it an oval?

The infield road course was designed for a F1 car by Sir Frank Williams.

I would like to see them run at Road Atlanta (cause its less than a 2 hour drive from my house) or Inferion Raceway Park (AKA Sears Point). That would be pretty fun to see.

I agree with Spencifer, an oval F1 race would bore me to death, there's less skill needed and that's what F1's all about. It would just be the same as Indy Car or whatever its called.

As for Long Beach, well it's got to be better than Indianapolis, because pretty much every track is better than that.

The appeal of ovals is the speeds they reach, although then that raises the issue of safety.

I suppose but you never really get a sense of this fast speed as say when there driving flat out around a fast corner, for example the 130R at Suzuka. Or Silverstone with its Corpse corner and Maggots curve. Awesome seeing the car change directions the way they do.

I don't knw if Tony George even wants any more F1 races at his track, but they could easily outbid Long Beach when negotiating with greedy Bernie. They can seat more, and can attract a better TV package.
If any other US track bags the GP, it would probably be by default of Indy.
Interesting the topic would mention ovals since at one time Formula One counted points from the Indy 500. 1950 to 1960.

I was reading last week that Some people from Toronto have been in talk with Midlands owner about trying to get a meeting with Big Bad Bernie, but I highly doubt that since we already have the montreal GP. After reading it, I just placed in my mind as Paddock Talk and nothing else.
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.
