Driver Rotation

Post

I don't particularly like his technical ideas or his (perhaps) refusal to go a month without irritating a GPMA member.

But I do like this idea, needs a bit of fine tuning, but hey:

What's wrong with the system we have now?

Mad, totally insane and irresponsible. I can see a million major problems, starting with who decides the driver selection for the season. What if Sato proceeds to destroy every car he steps into? Who pays the damages? And a driver would have only a few days to learn the car, from the buttons on the steering wheel to the launch proceedure, to the car's behavior and handling. So will the cars be standardized? Will the manufacturers leave because the cars are no longer unique? Some drivers bring sponsorship money to teams, what would the financial arraingments be on driver change?
Who would pay for the driver's salaries? Ferrari sure won't pay over forty million to Shu if he drivers only twice a year. So the best drivers in the world leave in mass, leaving the field to enthusiastic amateurs or kids hoping to earn a name.
Max proposed this insane concept to prove he doesn't have total control in the FIA. Well, this is totally insane and no one can seriously accept this idea. Max still has total control in the FIA, this is just a red herring.

OK, point(s) taken...

I knew it would never work/happen

But I just like the idea of people changing teams more often.
When I read the title, I though he was proposing a system where a driver couldn't race with the same team during consecutive seasons. That would be good.

it would awsome but i have to agree with dave.. there is too many problems.. maybe mosley should make the final round of the season where they all drive a similar car.. maybe a1gp car... that idea is much more realistic then driver rotation

I suppose it would be more likely.
But that's one of the things I would detest. Each car needs to be individually made, and not just a load of shared components.

I pretty much dislike everything that this plan would entail.

Totally unfeasible idea from Max. If he wants to introduce a method of reducing technical advantages, bring about weight penalties or invert the field based on qualifying order (just a few sane suggestions).

The fact he has dedicated any thought or consideration into such an unworkable proposal over 20 years, rather than addressing more weighty concerns (i.e. driver safety at test sessions, revised sporting/technical regs that the teams have a greater say in etc.) indicate FIA needs better leadership.

 Now I know why he is unifying F1 cars and engines... Once all cars become identical driver rotation will represent no problem. Has he got any grandchildren to play with?

Interesting but silly.

Why should all teams be equal? Part of the appeal of the sport is that there are basicly 2 classes. The front runners blowing millions to win races and the small fry, like Saulber before BMW, Minardi and Jordan, who know they are exceedingly unlikely to win, but they go for it anyway and have fun. And they get the biggest cheer when they are successful!

I would like to see 1 car privateer teams like the olden days. A low budget team would spend only 2/3s the money they spend at the moment and still be competitive, whats more if they are good then they can enter 2 cars the next year. Easy.

What about drivers that want to get into F1, since they can't enter through a team?

Max is starting to look like a chip off the old block.

Yes, I know, I know, I couldn't resist...

Good idea, Tom. Less rules! Less, rules! Less than zero... (clue: most of you won't get this one... God bless you)
