rfactor tire temperatures

Post

I'm driving with the MMG 2007 mod, using the MP4-22 at Brianza (the ISI version of Monza). And I've only recently discovered the Motec telemetry plugin. My lap times have always been, on average, 4 to 7 seconds slower than in real life. And when I used the Motec for the first time I finally discovered why: my tires are bloody cold! Tonight I've been trying to adjust the suspension with the help of RacerAlex's setup guide and the rfactor setup matrix, yet the only tyre that's getting up to 100C is my left rear. Any tips?

Also, my current best time is a 1:26.1 on race fuel.

The more load you put through the tires (lat, long or vertical) the more heat you will get.
Use weight distribution, and place more weight over the colder tires. Also adding more wing will help heat up the tires, as will stiffer springs and bars.

This may not be the cause of your slightly slower lap times though. They're never going to be exactly realistic.

With tracks like Monza, you need to carry alot of speed through the turns in order to get the highest speed possible on the straights. I think if you focus on maintaining as much momentum as possible through the turns, you'll end up driving harder and the tire temps will come up by themselves.

Also, as most of the turns are high speed, you'll want a much stiffer setup to support the aero load and the lat G forces so the car doesn't 'fall over' and go out of its optimum suspension geometry range.

Hope this helps.

Tyres alone won't be costing you THAT much time, especially around Monza. Remember, a lot of rF mods aren't actually realistic despite the nature of the game...

Oh Summer holidays!!! The time I can finally sit down a little bit and play :D

First time on rFactor (after 15 years of using Grand Prix) and I encountered with tyre temperatures...

No matter what I do, or what I change in setup, after a bunch of laps my tyres are burning arround 110C. Am I driving "a la Hamilton" or what??? #-o

After looking rFactor files for a while, I found some files named *.tbc

Is that the database for physics modificactions? If I change that I am actually changing the simulation?

EDIT: I have found the "Optimum operating temperature for peak forces" line and its 110 for the car I was driving. So I thought the tyres at that temp were overheating but actually they were working where they should. I was experimenting a lack of grip at that temp... but maybe it was from the wrong axle... and I am confused?

More to come...
