Main reason why Merc FAILED in the last 2 years was because of the LACK of Staff, remember after Germany Dr Zetsche gave Ross a big FAT CHEQUE to get some more staffJohnsonsEvilTwin wrote:What makes you think Mercedes are incapable of innovation Marcush?
If anything I reckon they are capable of it. They MAY have an idea they want to keep for as long as possible. It is a possibility, you cannot discount any team for innovation in F1.
Im of the opinion that Mercedes just want as long a lead time in developing the car as possible. If the car isnt a winning car, and they tested it in the first test, it will remain a non winning car come the first race.
So Mercedes have hedged their bets and have given the W03 an extra weeks gestation period. If you are trailing your competitiors I would say that this is the default action of choice, if you are serious about winning.
In fact I would even go further and delay the car until the very last test, and use the first GP as a simulation model then go from there. If what was said was true, that 0.050 seconds is found in aero every week, then your car will have 4 weeks bonus time, with a test to verify.
Its a gamble of course, but Mercedes need to gamble to cut the deficit. The W02 was in fact a brave gamble that failed to pay off. The W03 will have more resources but still needs some brave ideas to push them forward.
reagu;ar;y challenging for the podium might be to optimistic. For a MGP driver to podium, he has to beat four of the six drivers for the "big three". That's a large task for any teamESPImperium wrote:That was 1998 when things were 90% tunnel based, and now its 80% CFD based. Mike Gascoyne joined Jordan in June of 1998 and the team improved within a very short period of time.
Things can get done in a short time now, but with the tech aspect, things take alot longer, more like 18 months or more to make a meaningful impact with the regs mow.
Id expect a stron g MGP W03 sto start with, but not strong enough for a race win, but strong enough to go for regular 3rd Places. Id recon that by the end of the 2012 season that Mercedes will be up with the regulars for wins, kind of lik Renault with the R28 in 2008 id expect next season to be like, 2013 will be the key season for Mercedes.

JET you are mad. 0.05*4 = 0.20,2 tenth in 4 weeks. Meaningless they will loose 30-40seconds over the course of a race,if Mercedes do that they should sell their team to HRT,with those resources HRT will do a much better job. With mileage & set-up work you can find atleats 5 tenths to maybe even a second & minimize degradation & get a balanced race pace.JohnsonsEvilTwin wrote:What makes you think Mercedes are incapable of innovation Marcush?

Drop your fancy glasses. With Mercedes resources Torro Rosso would have been World Champion. Mercedes is a big team with HUGE Staff ,450 odd nowhere near the lowly 250 odd staff in the lower teams which beat Mercedes occasionally. Yes it is ideal to have Red Bull like staff, but what are Force India doing?MercAMGF1Fans wrote:Main reason why Merc FAILED in the last 2 years was because of the LACK of Staff, remember after Germany Dr Zetsche gave Ross a big FAT CHEQUE to get some more staffJohnsonsEvilTwin wrote:What makes you think Mercedes are incapable of innovation Marcush?

I agree. W01 had fundamental issues along with W02. Why on earth would we expect W03 to be game changer capable of turning the table? Bob Bell arrived at the team early last year and was a the helm of designing the new car, but is that enough? They also hired Willis and Costa. Were they in a hurry to employ new guys? Why did they not do such earlier? They are acting as if Mercedes board has told them you either make it this year or we pull the plug out. Marcus talked about the idea of pull rod suspension. What difference did it make on W02? I mean Newey had a clue when he brought the idea back to F1, but Mercedes just copied it thinking that it would give them performance gain out of the box, didn't they? Mercedes being innovative is not something bad, but remember that originality may make you look different, but doesn't necessarily make you better.Mr.S wrote:Drop your fancy glasses. Half the resources, half the technology, budget or even experienced engineers & they are still beating mercedes. Torro Rosso , erstwhile Minardi. If I was Dr. Z I would die of shame seeing a minardi beat a Mercedes.
in order to over come the "weakness" of the single diffuserWe chose a short wheelbase because we wanted a nice short area of floor ahead of the diffuser to keep the underfloor airflow consistant
Indeed, that is the reason why Honda made 4 world championships in a row...oh wait, that didn't happenMercAMGF1Fans wrote: Main reason why Merc FAILED in the last 2 years was because of the LACK of Staff, remember after Germany Dr Zetsche gave Ross a big FAT CHEQUE to get some more staff
