I don't see why it would be 2011 pre-season, it looks nothing like the R31. Still, I doubt they would let photographers take a picture or their most prized possession so early on. I would think that that model might be for calibrating the wind tunnel, or for research to see what, if any, are the benefits of the skinny nose. I highly doubt the R32 will look ANYTHING like that!

If it does though, that would be one sexy beast....

theres a close up pic of the cockpit somewhere on here i think its in the R31 thread so i think it is the R31
Have you seen the R31 nose? Its NOtHING like that! Its definetly not an R31. Still, as was explained above, Kimi is sitting in an R29 that was supposed to be Kubica's test car.

erm yes it does look like the R31, look at the picture above the jerez test the nose looks very similar if not the same to the nose in the windtunnel (remember they could be testing a nose that they didn't run)

Image

this is another picture of the R31 in the windtunnel look at the metalic stripe its in the same place so are the circles and the mirrors. ITS THE R31!!!!! LOL

nope kimi will drive R30 :) "However, I should be able to jump into a two-year-old F1 car in January. " now is 2012, two years ago was 2010, in 2010 renault drived r30, not r29.

Youll probably find its the R29 as the R30 dosnt have provision for the KERS batteries and monocoque dosnt have provision for the R27 engines MGU for the KERS.

The R29 also has provision for both Double and Single diffuser, as well as the periscope exhausts, also the team has put a 2011 spec DRS wing on the back of it with a 2011 spec front wing as well.

The R29 chassis is arguably a better one to the R31 that raced last year.

The teams R29-04 chassis has been in "race ready" format since August for Kubica, and since then has had some updates for the 2011/2012 rules that will bring any driver thats been out for a year or two up to spec for the start of testing. It is also going to be used as the teams specialist show car from now on as well seemingly as they have seen with Red Bull using two RB1s updated to 2012 spec that the team can save a bit of money having a specialist one or two chassis for show events with a specialist team running and mantaining the cars. Running a 2 year old car for one day costs €250,000, where as if you run a 3 year or older car it reduces to €250,000 a month some how. The main cost of running a car is the engine and transmission side of things, then fuel and tyres.

Maybe that monocoque is from the R31, but that nose is DEFINITELY not an R31 nose.

Image

Check the width of that nose to the nose on the wind tunnel model. Not even close to being the same. That is a VERY narrow nose, I'm not sure its even legal, so I doubt that is the R31. Also, Renault may have used a similar technique in making an R32 model to the one they used making a model R31. Not saying that the model is Completely different, but it is definitely not an R31.

Also, check the Airbox, very different to an R31. The bargeboards from what I can see are positioned differently in this model to the R31 and the picture you used.

BUT, I am NOT saying this is an R32 model, I'm just saying that its not an R31.

Me Also! Just is matter when was that picure taken? And the teams due seasons test many different versions of front nose cones etc. but base is definetly for r31!

I'm not saying its an R32 though, just saying that that nose isn't an R31 nose, and that it'd be weird if an interview from this year had a picture of last years car in testing. Also, I said that it may possibly be the monocoque of an R31, but the model as a whole is not the R31, since the nose is not an R31 nose.

It is an R31 nose, take a good look at the pillars. Also you have to take note the color is completely different. It might look different but it is the same nose as well as airbox.

ESP - wouldn't it be easier to name the team by the factory as a unique ID? Then the team names can come and go (along with irrelevant nation anthems) but we'll always know them as the folk from Enstone.
