Red Bull RB8 Renault (pre-launch speculation)

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It did not the RB5 feautured exhaust blowing out of the top surface of the sidepod, although its exhaust pipes were extended a bit further back.

The RB6 was the first to feauture the EBD when it was introduced in the last wintertest also featuring stickers on its old location fooling the rest of the teams

i know the rb8 is said to be an evo of the rb7, but is it fair to say more of a big evo of the rb5?

I think so I mean the original Rb5 had no DD diffuser, no exhaust blown diffuser and lower nose

I guess they will sort their KERS out this year

And Newey has recently stated that RB8 is an evolution of RB7 which was an evolution of RB6 back to RB5. Well, RB8 is going to have to be a serious evolution unless they have some way of recouping lost rear end downforce. I'm not understanding any other way around it. RB8 will have to have a stiffer front end, not as much rake, and this in essence is an about-face to their entire design program over the past 2-3 years. This is a problem and I just don't see the dominance of the past 2 years.

Someone quote me later but I see Red Bull dicing with Mercedes with Mclaren being very strong. The new 4th place team will be Ferrari.
Remember the Rb5? That is the car that I think is closest to the RB8 in regards to the rake and diffuser. I even beleive that the exhaust location on the rb5 has a little blowing effect to the beam wing too, though from a slightly position.

According on twitt rumors that RB8 is just 0.3s slover than a EBD rb7 model!

I wonder whether the coke bottle can be even tighter than what they had this year - which in itself was already extremely tight.

Making the whole thing tighter could get interesting as Renault used cold blowing to help cool the engine whenever the driver was off the throttle (which helped reduce the radiator cooling requirement) which has been banned for next year.

what a nonsense statement,0.3 seconds slower how?? around which lap?? 0 - 100?? to change a wheel nut??

lets save any chassis comparisons until we have quantifiable information, being Q3 results from Australia

Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some say that McLaren have more downforce without EBD than with EBD

Others say Ferrari have a magic diffuser coated with heat proof zircon, so that must be an EBD that sidesteps the EBD rules.

Personally, I say all the above is bovine poop.
