Ferrari F2012 (pre-launch speculation)

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Or the same rumour from the same source being repeated. A lot of "news" outlets rely on reporting what other news outlets are saying. You can only rely on a reporter saying "I've spoken to a source at team x"

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink..

We're talking about AutoSport here, no reason to lie or make up stories. Additionally no "news" outlets reported Ferrari had this system so they didn't pick it up from somewhere else. Lastly Domenicali confirmed today that Ferrari were working with such things.

If you don't want to believe those two, fine by me. But as I've posted before they've been right time and again yet people refuse to acknowledge it. No worries.

I agree that Autosport is usually reliable. Piola is affiliated with Autosport too.

Promising.
I believe the reports are wrong and that the car did pass the tests yesterday. It was before that the car failed the tests and yesterday with new carbon added, it passed. We should find out for sure in next few days.

I'd agree with you, those two do seem to have titbits of information in advance of others. A lot of it is detailed and I just don't see the point of them posting that much if there wasn't something in it. I remember we had someone tip off F1technical about macs L-shaped sidepods last year about four weeks before launch, half of people took on board the rest barked 'source' etc and refused to believe there was anything in it. Each to their own I guess...

From Truzonef1

A reliable source tells me that step yesterday Ferrari Crash-Test of the FIA, but the chassis is very light presented. A lot.

The gist is that the car failed its test because Ferrari is experimenting with a super light chassis/monocoque.
More could have been done.

The 2012 car passed the crash test this week. It did not fail.

then why are all the reports saying it did then? its not a big deal if it did fail. i'd rather fail and build up than be way to strong (and heavy) and try build down. to test how close to the minimum you can get your going to run into problems.

My point is no major publications have ran the story to my knowledge. And the ones that have are relatively small and cite some news source never before heard of. As I said, I understand that they failed a previous test but the one this week was passed. We will see.

Talk coming from the Ferrari camp doesn't seem to be that positive anymore.
They're always the ones talking up their car before the launch and saying they're out to win this year etc.
Uncharacteristically Alonso has been saying that competing is more important to him than winning and also has been saying there's too much pressure there is on Ferrari to win.
Apparently we can expect an ugly car, Domenicalli having called it such and Montezemelo calling it 'lousy' at least in terms of looks.
He still didn't sound overly enthusiastic about it.
Apparently it's got some sort of a bump on the nose.
