Red Bull RB8 Renault (pre-launch speculation)

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I was thinking that a maclaren style sidepod with exhaust blowing could effectively blow over the rear wheels to reduce a bit of drag

For Red Bull will be nuts if they change wining formula! That is not going to hapend, even Mclaren abaned U pods design...

WIth the Red Bull shrink-wrapped coke bottle packaging; they have 3 years worth of running data; and have a good understanding already of the way the airflow works.

If they changed to a new philosophy they'd need to rebuild their knowledge from 0.

 Excellent.

It's extremely unlikely the RB will move away from the general design as evolved over recent years. It'll all be about Newey's genius with the exhaust blowing and rear aero. They've pretty much got the front aero so nailed they can make it work with whatever they do on the back. Be interesting to see his take on the nose height reg.

Yeh quite fact! Look one page backward, one member on Mclaren mp4 - 27 forum says that is 100% sure that they abaned u pods design (secred realible source from factory)... But for sure that guy could be wrong...

Acording that information i just make logic connections and show example why is l pods so huge compromise... even Newey sad that on u pods are to much compromises for his car...

I don't expect to see L pods on rb8. Their internal packaging is well optimised and exhausts could be positioned with less compromises.

Right. I expect even tighter sidepods with a funky nose. The overall shape of the car will likely look like the last few successful Red Bulls.

throwing it out there, might not even be legal. But could we expect a nose along the lines of the RB5?

I'm expecting a cross between the RB5 (exhausts, nose) and the RB7 (sidepods for example)

I actually think Newey might go for a Caterham-style nose; except make the central bit between the ridges flush with the nose tip - basically a throwback to the RB6 super-aggressive V-nose; except the whole thing has moved lower.

For reference:

For one thing I wonder how they will advance their side pods. There's an asymptotic limit to how tightly you can package the internals; and I'm quite sure they're quite near that. Maybe something like a Williams FW33 gearbox would help to advance it?

Also, would the RB5 exhausts be legal? Wouldn't they fall out of the legal box?
