Lotus E20 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

In fact the splitter is the part that really caught my attention where it seems like they shape it slightly differently rather than just a flat piece of carbon fibre

the rear is tight and the sidepods are well undercut... the rest of the appearance and the launch with this crappy vid and no studio photos is just a piss taking of the fan, I hope they will battle it out with Marussia and Williams.
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

Looking at 19:00 on the video, you can see the exhaust at background. And a guy comes with one but I can tell if it the same type or a new one...

As far as I'm concerned, Renault, I mean Lotus, missed a golden opportunity with their shampoo sponsor. They should have gone after Selsun Blue, because you "never wear black without the Blue."

Gold should have been replaced by blue then... It is against company policy.

Ok so its got a stepped nose...you gotta admit its the least offensive of the stepped noses so far. It's a stepped nose that I can live with lol.

It doesn't have anything obviously different to the concept of the R31 (besides that nose of course) but I guess that just means they are following the same design path, refining the concept and hoping to gain pace in a more "natural" manner (if that even makes ANY sense at all...as if a new design concept is "unnatural" ...I hope you all understand what I'm trying to say though #-o )

Perhaps they feel they understand the R31's concept sufficiently for that to be a good baseline for which Kimi (who they surely must see as a new figure-head to the team after Fernando left and Robert Kubica's unfortunate injury woes) to start building a team, and car, around.

I mean, the R26 wasn't much different to the R25....I guess the difference there was that the R25 was already a very good car.

I hope the car is quicker than we're beginning to believe using our "visual analysis" tools (lol) because it really would be great to see Kimi mixing it up with the best of them once again.

The side-pods look slim but they do not have the huge undercut Force India has. It might be slim but slightly bulky. The Front Wing is Interesting. Weird, fresh & innovative. NO idea how this will work but I doubt any team will use this FW.

The whole car seems very generic. Nothing really stands out. It does not even look a SOLID Conservative Car like Mclaren's. It's a DUD,atleast if you are expectinG Lotus to compete with the best & gain podiums.

I see Force India convincingly beating Lotus. Two great young talents at F1 & Romain is a question mark & Kimi will take time to get his groove back.

4th is quite a Resonable target for them. I doubt if they can get anywhere near 4th.

you don't really need an undercut though. All the RB's 5 - 7 never had an undercut at the pods so its up to the designer.

Another important change. A proper sized Lotus badge on the nose, rather than the dinner plate sized thing they were using last year.

the r31 had a lot of good aspects to the design. The car got 2 podiums off the bat with mediocre drivers. When the ebd wasn't fully used by other teams the car could have been considered a top car. The Front exhausts were the problem.
The side pods are very good as well, same shape as last year and closest to the redbull's.
No reason this car cant challenge for wins. For all the launches so far i cant say which car is better. The caterham and FI are the only ones i see a few concerns with.
