Mercedes AMG F1 W03 (pre-launch speculation)

i have a question, ...why Mercedes drive today at Silverstone?? I thought that they may only test at Jerez and Barcelona. confused =(

Teams are allowed to drive the new cars for 50KM outside of the normal testing days - these are known as shakedown tests. Basically it's just to test that everything works ok - you can turn on the engine, the steering wheel turns the wheels; the engine connects to the rear wheels, etc.

I think the low sidepod openings some are commenting regarding are an illusion. The head-on shot posted earlier clarifies the upper area of the sidepod to be in a traditional position.

No front wing duct, mercury? no mercury. People start seeing on blurry pics and videos their wishes coming true. Its freaking funny, like letting the jinny out of the lamp. I'll stick wit my guns and wait for the 21st 8.20 Barcelona. Still hoping for a solid, relatively competitive car, but I prefer not to speculate anymore.

I wouldn't comment on whether there's a new front wing or what etc. You just can't tell. You can't say 'it has an old front wing' how can you tell that? As for the car in general, looks pretty conservative to me. Just a slight upgrade of the W02. I'm not expecting too much, all these things people appear to see, I believe are just illusions. Come Barcelona, and that's not the case though, then I will happily eat my words.

So it's looking more and more like the McLaren will be the only car without the stepped nose with only the noses of the HRT and Marussia still to be seen.
I wonder if this is going to put some doubt in the guys at McLarens minds as to whether they've gone down the wrong road.
I also wonder if Mercedes will be looking at McLaren and Ferrari's early testing niggles with smiles on their faces and fancying their chances of beating them this season?
