Mercedes AMG F1 W03 (pre-launch speculation)

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Simply to not bother too much thinking about exhausts, just to get a maximumly tight sidepod. With the little benefit you can get from exhausts this year, it's just as beneficial to go tighter.

The car looks very sleek.
Just look at how much floor is exposed after the back of the sidepod.
The front wing looks very unique - it looks very different to the other teams wings - just look at the elements next to the endplate and the elements where the McLaren's r-wings are.

This is a promotional exhaust.
if you look at the pictures from yesterday testing you will see a different exhaust. this area of the car will be the most tasted one and will suffer the most changes til Melbourne.

Not much in the terms of cooling exits...and no gills either.

I was wondering this earlier in regard to the Ferrari, but since the opportunity has presented itself here...

Ferrari and Mercedes both seem to have the same design for the top of their sidepod inlets. Is that design tantamount to the blade-type roll hoop and as such will allow development of the sidepods without having to alter the chassis?

Ray, the pods look to retain a slight undercut all the way around.

I don't know about that. It looks like it has virtual chimneys next to the exhausts.

Quite.

Good looking car overall. Are the sidepod intakes square? Not sure what's happening at the top of the sidepods where they meet the body - is it a little turning vane? Is there a crease there where it's painted black?

The inner cascades on the front wing look interesting, too.

I think those are just from the crap picture being blown up and over exposed. Look at the other pictures, there doesn't seem to be anything. That line just follows the sidepod contour.

Yes, nobody quite has anything like it.

It is a full blown 3 element wing too. Does this wing lead us to believe the team found more DF at the rear?
