Nico was on full tank on softs in the race simulation. Besides Brawn said they are experimenting to see the degradation pattern as in which is better pushing in the 1st lap or not. Nico pushed very hard in his 1st lap.
what race simulation do you mean?

<snip> can you give me a source of trackside stuff???

BTW I screwed up. Nico's average Lap Time is 1.28.1 or 1.28.2. I wrote 1.26.2 which was rubbish.

1.28.2 is still faster than Webber & Michael's Average Lap time by a Good Distance. I dont have Vettel's data so I cant check wether his average lap time was actually in the 1-27's.

Nico's Race Simulation. 57 Timed laps. 3 Laps into the pits & 3 Out laps. And 2-3 Lap wastage due to Red Flag.

He was on a SOFT-HARD-HARD-HARD tyre race simulation.

if you meant today's race sim by Rosberg: it was done entirely on Hards

Hey Man. thanx. I will do the calculations for Vettel & Hamilton. Nico's avg. lap was 1.28.1 or 1.28.2. I re-did the stuff. Thanx for the link anyway.

Vettel did 4 PIT Stops. That is huge. He always had new tyres. Can someone tell me what is the average pit stop time in Barcelona. Nico did 3 Pit Stops.1 pit stop worth of time should be added to Sebastian's time. Hamilton did 4 Pit Stops.

Edit - Corrected. Both Vettel & Hamilton did 4 Stops Each while Nico did 3.

I think in Barca pit stop time will probably be more than 20s.

For a quick tyre change, pit stop cost a bit less than 20s.

No sir!

I'm almost sure Pirelli said only the hard would remain the same compound. They're all "squarer" than last year and supposedly they've closed the gaps between compounds; Hembery says they're shooting for ~0.6-0.8 seconds between 'em as that opens up more different strategy possibilities.

Cheers,
Ian
I think it is just the other way. The old hard compound doesn't exist and last year's medium compound is now the hard one. The soft and supersofts are near the same (small changes) and the medium is totally new.
My bad! You are of course absolutely correct - I got it bass ackwards - Sorry about that! Helluva first post, huh!?

Here's Hembery's comments from before testing; http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/97169

Cheers,
Ian

That & there is nothing called "leisurely driving" in an F1 track. That is pure BS. The other issue is provide me 1 source where they say Mercedes are going madly aggressive every lap & Mclaren are driving leisurely. I would gladly accept I wrote BS & I will eat my own words.

Well, then I guess you'd say then that Schumacher also is incapable of taking it easy around the track. There's a value at times in being able to lay down consistent lap times in testing, to eliminate that variable when comparing tires, setup, etc. That means that sometimes you don't drive 100%. If you look at what McLaren have been doing the past few days, you'll see that they've been running pretty much the exact same stint over and over and over - refueling most every time and trying different tires and setups. My guess is that their testing strategy is this: 1st test - systems tests and basic setup; 2nd test - tire wear and reliability; 3rd test - performance. I think they're paying special attention to tire wear and tire heat because of their exhaust, but that's has proven to be a contentious subject.

This was posted over at Atlas just this morning...
Been there this morning, mostly on the outside of turn 10 and seeing the cars do most of sector three (turns 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 & 15)

Button's been on medium tyres the whole morning (at least, every time I saw him, he was on mediums) and the feeling was that the car is really planted on the ground, almost on rails. Sometimes I got the feeling he wasn't pushing as hard as he could, but it was pretty clear when he was on a fast one... cause the track's speaker inmediately announced that Button had just lowered the previous best lap.

One interesting thing was that, at turn 13, he was completely avoiding the kerbs and at 14-15 he touched them very slightly. That was in stark contrast to what Rosberg was doing, as he used inside kerb at 13. Conclusion? There's plenty of room for time improvements.
And with that, we've got things like Windsor's and others' comments on Hamilton and Button being super smooth around the course, and I've seen a lot of photos of the Merc bouncing over curbs and the same of the Mac taking wide lines.

That doesn't mean that the Merc sucks - it means that I don't think you can compare the times.

Opinion? Sure, but that's my point - last year and the year before, the best predictors of performance I think came from trackside opinions, not lap times. If you went by lap times, you'd have thought that Ferrari was going to walk it last year. But if you went by track observations, you knew that the Red Bull had it in the bag.

Feel free to dismiss all that if you want. Opinions are opinions. But don't call my posts BS, and don't accuse me of 'concocting stories'. Are we clear on that?

Vettel did 54 Timed Laps. His average was 1.28.96 but he had a 1.51 & 1.49 lap in between doing 1.30 laps. That was probably due to trafic.

Substracting 40 seconds the average lap becomes 1.28.2 which is slightly slower or on par with Nico's time. But Vettel did 1 Pit Stop more. He also did only 5-6 laps on his last set of tyres which could have give him his some more quick laps.

I am adding 0.4s due to 1 Pit Stop Extra & substracting 0.1s as he could have put 3-4 quick laps to decrease his overall avg. time slightly.

All in all taking that into account Vettel's average Lap Time Should be 1.28.5.

I fail to see what fun the Mercedes bashers are having. Nico's average 1.28.2 is VERY VERY quick. Vettel might have had maybe 10 Lap more of fuel which he did not Just to sanbag but Mercedes will fight with or be atleast 0.5 near of Red Bull.

Button??? I dont expect anything less of him. I was talking about Hamilton.

But this is misleading. On 1 lap Nico rode Kerb 13 & Button avoided 1ce or a few times & that tells the whole picture. Fuel Loads,Tyres play a huge role in this. Otherwise it is useless to say who rode the kerb & stuff. You cant ride kerbs aggressively at Full Tanks & Worn Tyres.

BTW I checked Vettel's race simulation & Nico's & its clear to me that Mercedes have a competitive car.
