I work at a golf course here in the states and we have a self powered bat wing bush hog (extremely long red neck sounding name) that will easily do 30-35 MPH in transport gear. Theres no telling what it could do with a little manipulation. Hydrostatic drive too, so the acceleration is instant. It would be great to see like 10 or 15 of those bad boys running around a track, beating and banging...

Where is Tim "The toolman" Allen when you need him, this would be perfect for his character off home improvement.
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

Find yourself a car club. They probably don't do mower racing but they will have loads of field events and rallies you car chuck any old piece of metal into (I have no doubt you would be allowed to take a mower to an autotest. Whatsmore with low speed events you might even be a little competitive.) Here is my clubs site. http://www.soscc.co.uk

With the high center of gravity, it would certainly take some getting used to. Throw the things around too harshly and I imagine you'd topple right at the apex!

We have a small dirt oval within walking distance of my apartment that rednecks race their mowers on. I caught a glimpse of one race whilst out riding with my uncle, and I swear, it looked like you could run faster than those things. Must have been the bottom class.
