Lotus E20 Renault

What do you think about it ?

I think its just a shadow plate* for the upper sidepod overhang...

Being fastest in the tests doesn't mean much, but I must say that Lotus is looking good.

This is very nice trick of moving back the side pods.
The outer leading edges of the floor are closer to the diffuser, so the vortex from the "dog ears" loose less energy as they travel down the floor.
Also, the turning vanes get to be more ahead of the side-pod. By doing this, I think gives a cleaner loss as the flow bends around the side of the side pod.

Any thoughts?

Autosport:
Most of the field spent the afternoon focusing on race simulations, meaning that Raikkonen's 1m22.030s lap, set inside the final 20 minutes of the morning, was unlikely to come under fire.

The Lotus driver's race simulation was among the most impressive of the day as he completed a 65-lap run on four sets of Pirelli tyres; three soft, one hard. During these stints he suffered performance drop-off of no more than 1.8s on any given set of tyres.

While his drop-off figures were the best of the race simulations, his overall pace was still shy of Lewis Hamilton's McLaren, which seemed to have a 0.2s advantage on any given lap of a stint.
It'll be intereting to see...
The speed of Ayrton Senna.
The mind of Alain Prost.
The dedication of Michael Schumacher.
The determination of Alex Zanardi.

Tiny to the naked eye does not mean insignificant to the flowfield. :)

Indeed, its probably an encouraging sign that further tweaks are bringing about useful benefits to the existing concepts... it would tend to indicate they are on the right path.

The floor leading edge doesn't look like it is particularly far back in this picture. Looks quite funky though.

The lower part of the side pod entrance looks very aerofoil like as well.

i know there is a small angle difference, but that dosen't justify a difference like this

the r31 was built for kubica and petrov (1.85m tall)
the e20 was built for grosjean (1.79m) and raikkonen (1.75m)

that's why the wheelbase is the same, but the cockpit height is different

:-k  O:)

That is exactly what I was thinking. Has it given them a competitive advantage, I wonder? Can't wait till Australia now!
