HRT F112 Cosworth

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Quoting a car with different aerodynamic regulations and requirements is hardly strong evidence though

Williams were the only team in those years not to run barge boards, maybe you should see other cars from 2004 for barge boards.

Requirements of an f1 car have always been the same, maximum down force, don't see what you mean

The FW26 had barge boards, just not in the traditional location. IIRC they were mounted in between suspension arms and thus hidden by the wheels in this view.

well...the barge boards play a big role in sealing the floor...they produce a vortex behind them that seals the floor...so..not having barge boards would definitely decrease the floor efficiency..

Actually I think its one of the best looking designs of 2012, the nose in particular (from profile) seems to have a much more gentle step than the Mercedes or Caterham for example. It's uncluttered and has simple, flowing, rather elegant lines. Of course it won't be particularly quick but I hope it will be a step forward from the F111.

The paint scheme is a bit bland and boring but I can live with that, and actually I sorta like it. Reminds me a bit of the old Gold Leaf Lotus (which will befun seeing as we've got the Caterham & the Lotus GP car's in retro "Lotus" Schemes now too lol).

As for it being such an ugly car: that's an opinion people are of course entitled to, but everyone here seems to pounce on this lot for every little thing. Yes they're a micky-mouse outfit in quite a few ways but just put it this way:
HRT have their car ready and Marussia nearly did not. Nobody's kicking up much of a fuss about the MR01 not being ready (relative to how people berated the hell out of HRT for not having their car ready in time the previous season) but had the HRT failed its crash test once (let alone twice) everyone would have been crying blue murder.

There seems to be a lot of bias about this team and frankly I get the feeling that if you paint this thing in Red Bull or Mclaren colours then people would be far more respectful towards it, swooning at how "simple" and "uncomlicated" the design is. BUT - because its a HRT, it's somehow therefore the worst thing in the world ever.

With regards to the technical aspects:
+ I'm surprised by how tight and neatly the engine cover is packaged. (Ok yes it isn't amazing...but I expected something bulkier)
+ I could be wrong but the exhaust outlets suggest to me they are attempting to aim the exhausts at the rear wing main plane. Thoughts?

Oh...and I quite like the gold rims lol

Good luck to HRT this year - for the first time since they started they've had me (a tiny bit) pleasently surprised.

I don't know that it's a good idea to cite as evidence the car that effectively killed Williams F1.

While it's true you don't need barge boards, since their widespread adoption by the F1 community, no team has had success without them.

The car does not have a step nose. Whereas the Merc and Caterham do. The only other car wihout a step, is the McLaren!

The car is unfinished i feel, i think there is still to be Bardgeboards, Cascade wings and a whole host of other things attached to it for AUS.

There looks to be at least 3 bardgeboard support mountings on the car, the cascade wings look as if they are still to be added as this looks like a Version 1.0 front wing, if not one from last years car thats just been added to get the car on track for the shake down.

Ill wait till AUS to see the first version of the F112, whitch i feel will bolt on instant performance.

It quite clearly has a stepped nose, just more like the Lotus E20 in profile..

I think the front wing is not definitive, guessing its still in manufacture.
