Help to identify Ferrari Petronas engine

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Its older than 2002. First find out when Sauber switched exaust to upwards and than look for the engine range before that moment.

Judging by position of the pipe in the middle of the bank, we can exclude 047. Looking at injectors design and at the protruding gearbox mounts on the valve cover the one in your pic looks like 046/2, AFAIK Sauber used it in 1998.
Obviously I’m assuming that the engine used by Sauber was absolutely identical to the version used by Ferrari, it’s possible that maybe they made some modifications (for example using on the 046/1 valve covers similar to 046/2), that honesly I don’t know.
