Such a lovely rear end, and already looking stronger than last year
i wonder if that can flex down at speed?
is there a simalar 'flexy wing test' for monkie seats?
Flexing of that monkey sit wouldn't be desired because it's equal to loosing part of usable energy by converting it into elastic energy. It's different story with front wing, because there the point of flexing is to get it low enough to benefit from some ground effect. Or so I believe ;)
Depends if you want to lose drag at high speed. Should that be desirable then you may trade some downforce for less drag down the straights only to have the monkey seat flex back up once you slow down for the corner. Same reason some teams in the past have been bending the rear wings backwards at speed (e.g. Red Bull were shown to do this a couple of seasons ago with some videos where you could see the shark fin staying still and the rest of the rear wing flexing backwards reducing the angle of attack).

I didn't thought about shedding some drag with flexing it, but that sounds reasonable. BTW, I've seen videos of flexing rear wings, just forgot I did, cause it was quite some time ago ;)

Strange, I don't think I've seen that on raceday.
Anyone got a pic of it during raceday?

Manchild called it. Decent car. Hopefully they'll have the resources to sustain it.

I don't think they're new, but I find these 2 elements "intresting"

A reminder this is a car thread. We seem to be talking about the relative performance, and who works there.

Please use the team threads to discuss every about the team that is not a development or discussion on the car.

I'm fairly sure the switch to Renault engines has allowed the rear end with that low gearbox all work so much better. The engine bay areo looks tidier than anyone's on the grid and that of course is also due to the engine packaging from Renault. I so hope they can throw the development at it. The foundation is there for a great car.

I remember when I said this car is a good car, and people doubted me  the williams lowline gearbox may be working better with this years aero package with a cleaner rear end, I do believe the renault switch was one of the keys to unlocking the potential in the gearbox helping the aerodynamics :D

Indeed, Williams Cosworth belongs in the same sealed box as McLaren Peugeot. Sucks being poor.

It's a real shame that dorsal fin is aerodynamically desirable, without it the Williams would look stunning from the side. Imagine this car with a pre-2009 RW for god's sake...

=D> to the team, every time during the race I heard "That Williams is definitely being held up by the Ferrari" or similar I got a bit giddy, child of the 90s that I am :)

I believe the dorsal fin is written into the regulations for greater real estate for showing sponsorship...

Anyway, I was extremely impressed with Pastors pace in the FW34 in clear air. The car looks great on track and I look forward to seeing how it performs in Malaysia. I assume that they will be running the extra cooling we saw briefly in Barcelona there!

cooling on this car is feat. Suprised how they manage to push air through that space. Where does it go with a "shell back" engine cover like that?
No key hole cooling exits or anything.
For Sure!!
