I don't think his talent is doubted by anyone. But the question is whether he can recover to where he was physically and mentally previously - not to mention he will be quite a bit rusty .

I think even though his accident was severe (an understatement) that he´s recovering way better then most people think.

I´ve had flesh wounds where i´ve lost all feeling in part of my arm and the doctor wasn´t to optimistic i would get the feel back but surely after 4-5 months of actually feeling the nerves attaching i´m all back 100% now in my arm except for a small spot where the bloody dog penetrated a massive hole.

If the game really was up, 100% finished, then we would have known about this a long time ago.
The fact that nothing of sorts comes up but instead we see pictures of him karting, rallying etc tells me he´s well on his way to being near perfect again.

As long as he can hold a wheel firmly and shift and do other stuff on the wheel then i can´t see why he would not be as quick as before.

Nando, I had my arm very badly damaged as well I am going on 4 years now and I will never get sensation back in the top half of forearm. The nerves are in sheaths like a bike cable, and if enough flesh is damaged deep enough, they won't line back up when the flesh is stiched together. My sensory nerve is spinning around in place like an ingrown hair. I poke at it, and my 'phantom' arm tingles as if it still had sensation. I was within a half inch of cutting my control nerve, the one Kubica had severed. I was offered surgery to fix it, but there would be guarantee it would work, and all the scars would have to be reopened and they are ugly enough as it is.

IIRC his secondary surgery was to repair these nerves so at the very least, he would be able to control his hand even if it was never perfect.

I have said from the beginning that he will be back, I am still sticking to it. I am as strong as I ever was, and if I really want to I can win bar bets with unfeeling forearm meat.

I have to be honest and say I don't get all the fuss over Perez. Sure he's a solid driver, a safe pair of hands if you will. But he is being flattered by the tyres and car in the same way Button and Vettel have come to the fore ever since the Pirelli era. These tyres reward the smooth consistent driving style that these drivers naturally favour.

That doesn't mean I don't think they're great, but I think it is undeniable that they are able to play to their strengths whilst other drivers are having to adapt to fighting with one arm behind their backs.

Or Vettel, Button and Perez are better able to adapt. Anyway, the Pirelli era is not set to end for a while yet as far as I know and it is always the case that some drivers will do better with one kind of tire while others struggle, there's no points for struggling.

Robert Kubica has undergone surgery in order to improve the mobility of his arm following his accident last year.

The Pole, who continues recovering from the horrific crash he was involved in during a rally at the start of last year, had surgery at the Pederzoli hospital at the end of last month, when parts of his elbow were replaced with two prosthesis.

According to the doctor in charge of the operation, that will allow Kubica to fully handle the steering wheel of a car.

The doctor also said that the Polish driver had been carrying out tests in a simulator prior to the operation.

"This way the driver will be able to fully handle the steering wheel, while before he was unable to rotate the palm down, so he was forced to release the steering wheel in order to turn left," head surgeon Ruggero Testoni was quoted as saying by Italian media.

"The surgery was preceded by a series of tests in a car simulator. It will take at least one month in order to stabilize."
