Driver's trophies

Post

I start this thread because I saw that Ferrari got both trophies from Valencia. I knew that McLaren did that and I want to know if other teams do it too.
Also, I would really like to know what your feelings, on that matter, are.

Not sure what you mean but it touches a sore spot for me...When my car (dragster) won the Division championship the driver got and kept the trophy...I feel as car owner I should have gotten it...After all, it cost me around $60,000.

There are trophies for the top three drivers of every race, and there's one trophy for the winning team. As far as I know, the teams keep all trophies won by their drivers, who then get replicas.

Good point strad. With the car and team playing a significant role in results, both in a race and the WC, the teams do have some rights to keep the trophies. The teams also front up the most cash. I wasn't aware that the drivers got replicas - if that's the case, well it's better than nothing. There's also the fact their names are up in lights for ever.... that must count for something? The engineers back in the sheds don't even get a mention, let alone a bit of glitter for their mantle.

The drivers have to be careful they don't seem too greedy, or it could backfire.

Like every situation, it all comes down to negotiations.

strad - could you have given your driver a replica or is that a rule you must obey?

Just my stupidity and naivety at the time.
What bothers me now is that even though he knows my feelings, he's never had the class to have a get a replica...which I now know you can buy from NHRA, and offer that to me.

I've always been a bit disappointed that the same guys usually go up on the podium with the winning driver. Just once I'd like to see one of the mechanics go up there and have the time of their life. They more than deserve it and they aren't getting the pay that the big guys get as well as never getting to grin like an idiot during the anthems.

I know McLaren keep all the trophies and give the drivers replicas though.

I'm really stretching my memory on this one, but wasn't Hamilton allowed to keep his (original) Monaco 2008 trophy, as a present from RD???

Blink and you will miss it, but you can see replica trophies in Mark Webber's house in this video (at 1:34):

They are replicas and the originals at their factory:

You can tell these are the originals as Webber explains an indentation in his 2010 Monaco trophy where he dings the top edge on the ceiling of the podium area.

At the McLaren Technology Center

Racing should be decided on the track, not the court room.

With all the talk about the replicas, I though I would take some initiative and track down someone who makes the F1 trophies and find out exactly what they are and if they make replicas. The answer seems to nullify any reason between having the one handed on the podium and one handed to the driver later. Here is the words from the (very talented) guy that made some:
When we make the replicas of our designs they are exact in every detail. Considering they have not been covered in Mumm they are probably better! Seriously we could not tell the difference between them and we do not always get requested to make replicas.

I remember DC once said the Monaco trophies were the cheapest to get replicas of.

from Guardian
Lewis Hamilton says keeping his trophies will be a "push point" in talks over a new contract with McLaren. Hamilton said: "[The McLaren executive chairman] Ron [Dennis] and the team have all the trophies in the cabinet and the drivers get replicas.

"In a lot of other teams, the drivers get their original trophies. As a racing driver, what you work for and what you want to take home are two things; one is your crash helmet and the other is your trophy. For me, they are priceless.

"I don't care if they don't give me a car, but those two things are what you put your blood and sweat into – and they keep those at the moment. So whatever contract I'm having next, that is going to be a push point.
