Silverstone for sale
According to PissPass Silverstone is in the same straights as the Nurburgring

Maybe, but I put little stock in Sylt and the Ecclestone Times.

I find it interesting that some if not most of the pre-2000 races are to this day tracks that are a more financially suitable, sustainable not to mention cheap due to locality, etc.

So the question would be...Why are people building all these silly Tilkedromes...when there are already fantastic tracks waiting to be utilised.

E.G: Argentina, Mexico, Austria, Imola, Zolder (with some slight modifications)...the list could go on.
If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

I don't like to see any track in financial trouble, but to be honest the grand prix track somehow doesn't still up any strong positive emotions. Even when I drive it in my simulator, it doesn't stir the juices.

But the Nordschleife is holy ground to me.

The history, the countryside, the distance, the elevation changes, and all those unique corners and straights conspire to make this much much more than just a mere "track", and it somehow transcends mortal expectations of what driving pleasure and excitement can be. When I drive the Nordschleife on my simulator, my veins rush with adrenaline, my eyes are as big as saucers and my breathing becomes accelerated with pleasure and glorious excitement. And I just can't wait to get another lap in, again and again.
Racing should be decided on the track, not the court room.

It is the ultimate race track no doubt about it.
If you think SPA has elevations think again as it´s only a third of the elevations at Nords :) Absolutely crazy piece of road.

Ever been to the 'ring?

So long as there is the IOM TT everyear, the big 'ring or 'green hell' will never really be that special... its just long, and boring.

Hockenheim has much better facilities, and has such good f1 history there, just like some of the drivers, i wish they would bring back to old hockenheim.

In my opinion that's nutz.

I've been there twice. Just walking sections of the track was an experience I'll never forget. And in my opinion you're nutz.

The news about Silverstone being for sale comes from Autosport so this is the second report. The BRDC are probably getting desperate at not being able to sell the lease for years so they are now offering up the whole shooting match. Doesn't bode well.

What you mean is that they're in the middle of nowhere, not up to current standard, and would cost a small fortune to make adequate for a modern F1 race.

No, it's not the end of the Nurburgring. Someone will buy it, pull their head out of their ass, chuck a metric --- of money at someone else, and get some serious racing back on the 'ring. WEC, anyone?

This current standard thing is a load of crap.

Rolex Sports Car series was racing for 6 hours today at Watkins Glen.

You don't see them crying about not having gigantic runoff areas lol.

As said elsewhere, there's a lot of tracks I hope F1 never goes back to because I don't feel like seeing them ruined.

the regular "oh you pussies are nothing, just look at Isle Of Man..."

Yes we know those guys are the last true daredevils in the world but it doesn´t take anything away from Nords.
Have YOU been there? The place is completely insane, it has elevations you don´t find anywhere else in the world.

It´s still a very dangerous track, in fact it´s the most dangerous one for 4-wheelers.

That's nice. It also has nothing to do with the subject at hand.

The FIA has requirements for tracks. If a track doesn't meet those requirements you fix it. If you can't fix it... sod off.

Michael Schumacher will drive a 2011 Mercedes Formula 1 car around the Nurburgring Nordschleife on May 19.

The demonstration run will take place as part of the build-up to this year's Nurburgring 24 Hours.

"I have a lot of fond memories of the Nurburgring and am really looking forward to giving fans and friends from my home town of Kerpen, which is quite close to the Nurburgring, something to remember as they see me drive by," said Schumacher.

"But it will be a fantastic experience for me too, driving along the Nordschleife in a state-of-the-art Formula 1 Silver Arrow, particularly in view of the fact that the Silver Arrow's legend began here.

"Posting a lap in a modern Silver Arrow on the most beautiful and most testing circuit in the world, what a brilliant mix - it's every motor racing driver's dream."

Schumacher has taken on an ambassadorial role with Mercedes after stepping down from its F1 line-up at the end of 2012.

The famous 14-mile Nordschleife layout was F1's German home until 1976.

The last time a contemporary F1 car tackled the track was when Nick Heidfeld demonstrated a BMW there in 2007.

Did you know?

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff is famous for holding the Nordschleife lap record at one point, before having a big accident in 2009.
Hope he goes for a lap record.

The Pirellis wouldn't last a full lap plus its pretty much impossible to set up a modern F1 car for this circuit.
Anyway I hope he pushes it more than Heidfeld did back in '07.
