And as I said before... That's why they're awarded a constructor's trophy.simieski wrote:I understand Lewis wanting the trophies for himself, but I think teams are justified in keeping them. A driver is a single cog in the machine that is a modern F1 team. Ok they are right at the sharp end, but without hundreds of people who get significantly less income, rewards and recognition working at the team they would never have the opportunity to win a trophy. The team, in my opinnion, is bigger and more important than the driver. What a motivator it must be to walk into work at the MTC or any other successfull team to be greeted with a dazzling array of the teams achievements.
I'm not disagreeing – you'll see from my original post, I'll be very surprised if Lewis manages to get this... I'm just also adding that I don't get the mentality of the teams here, simply because a trophy for the team is given out at the race.richard_leeds wrote:Some teams like Ferrari and McLaren obsessively retain everything. Any driver signing for then should know that's how they work, it's part of their pedigree. If a diver doesn't like working for a team with a rich heritage, then they can work for a minor team who don't do that. Simple choice.
You betcha...The trophies belong to those who pay the bills. Ain't that right, strad?
hahahaha now that is funnyCam wrote:Should we take odds if Hamilton manages to negotiate to keep his trophies?
Hamilton would want to be careful he doesn't bluff his way out of a seat. Sounds like RD is looking to stamp his authority and nothing does that quite like a DCM.
I would imagine any of the hundreds of willing and ready replacements couldn't care where the trophies go.
Where else can he go though? Red Bull are full, and Seb probably wouldn't want a legitimate threat once Mark retires. Ferrari has Alonso, and Lewis wouldn't take contracted #2 seat. Mercedes are the only option really. And they're slowly returning to their normal, pre-Brawn days of mediocre performance. McLaren are the only legitimate choice for Lewis. And both Ron and Lewis know this.Nando wrote:hahahaha now that is funnyCam wrote:Should we take odds if Hamilton manages to negotiate to keep his trophies?

Mclaren needs Hamilton more then he needs them that´s for sure.
You mean other than the millions of dollars, the fitness and youth to do pretty much whatever they want, houses all over the world, more cars and pu$$y you can shake a stick at, and their name in the history books forever..?n smikle wrote:I think what Hamilton wants is to get the trophies "on loan." Aren't there other teams where the driver's keep the trophies?
No. It's pretty much standard practice in all of racing that the teams, those who pay the bills, keep the hardware.n smikle wrote:[...]

Not quite comparable. There's a difference between a trophy like the Wimbledon Trophy which is one trophy that is "held" temporarily and passed from winner to winner, and a trophy which is won, and a new trophy is given at each event.Harvey wrote:To add another dimension in to this debate. Does anybody think it's a bit harsh that the winners of Wimbledon don't get to keep the trophy? The women's dish trophy is like 2foot across or something and would make a wicked fruit platter - they get an 8inch replica of it to take home in their hand luggage.
Do you think they get annoyed that they don't get the real thing (or even a life size copy)? Or do they accept that having their name inscribed on the trophy is enough of a trophy in it's own right?
