The fans, and everyone. They say. As with remote controlled cars we'd stop watching and going to races.

Given the issues of Safety and the sheer amount of cost, weight, material, technology that goes into 'supporting' an onboard driver; wouldn't it be fun to see what would happen if the F1 cars were designed to be driven by Remote Control.

The Telemetry Data feedback (cameras, diagnostics etc) is substantial these days and should be able to cope with most conditions.

The driving skills and tactics would have to change drastically too, as any propogation delay in control/feedback would require Drivers to concentrate further ahead of their position to prevent collisions etc.

Just a thought :-)
 :wtf: #-o

How about racing a 1:18 model in an indoor track? Bernie can help with artifical rain if you want. That would save everything from telemetry to simulators. Or may be chuck F1 once and for all and play hide-and-seek?

Sorry. No rudeness meant honestly but I guess fantasy has its place elsewhere.

Okay here's my 'twist' on removing the driver from the car and potentially making it a more interesting sport....

Imagine the vehicle is 'remote-controlled'... I know it's a big 'stick-in-the-throat' issue to some but at least 'consider' it.

With this concept there is no reason why an F1 car cannot be driven by Multiple Drivers. That is, different drivers could be swapped in & out to best utilise their driving skills in terms of race starting, overtaking, fuel conservation etc.

It would be interesting to see how the different F12 teams 'swap' their drivers based on another team's Driver selection etc???

Who would you pick for different aspects of an F1 race from eaxh of the teams for example???

Actual hide and seek? That would require actual interaction with the actual world.

Perhaps simulated hide and seek?

I'm now even less interested than I was before.

But RC racing already exists.... its popular, but not on an F1 scale... its the onboard human element that's probably the main reason for that popularity... in fact if you look at most sports they're generally trying to take the technology out of the game and go back to "the way it was"... take cycling's hour record (UCi limitation on bike geometry) and even swimming (Speedo fast skin being banned) as good examples of this "back to basics" approach...

Would not want to see such racing. After all, there's certain appeal of knowing there's human beings on track. Just like live shows vs listening the record.
But I would like to see somebody building something like RedBull X1 with remote control to look just how far a car technology could be pushed.

Errm.... what's the difference between this idea and SIM racing, other than there is a physical car on the other end?
I'm not an engineer, just an experiment.
