World champion Fernando Alonso has said he no longer considers Formula One a sport after he was penalized for blocking Felipe Massa in qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix.

The Renault driver, close to tears at a packed press conference at the Renault motorhome on Sunday morning, said that the FIA's decision to delete his three fastest laps had changed his view on what F1 was all about.

I feel for alonso. Mayb its coincidence or mayb its politics, I just hope the drivers championship isn't decided because of this incident.

Below 20C and rain later today, but should be after the race.

did anyone see martin brundles gridwalk where he bumped into max moseley, max hasn't not got a clue what is going on.

basically if a car is on a hot lap and a car infront is on its outlap no matter how far ahead that car is 100m to 300m, then they are impeding the driver on the hot lap.

bollocks, F1 should now be called the Ferrari world masters

I'd like to share "Tano" (our own Murray Walker, with a lot of class) in FoxSports Latin America:

"This reminds me about the time Batista had a GP sponsored by the regime in Cuba, in 1958 (Note: hey, Tano can remember that, he is like 1.000 years old: he seems old to me). Fidel Castro kidnapped Juan Manuel Fangio. Bild or Sun would love it: I say it in a good way, do not take me wrong. After all Juan Manuel was treated in a magnificent way... But, back to the point, all what is left in this championship is for "someone" to kidnap Alonso."

These comments came after a detailed replay of Massa's entire lap. (FoxSportsLa technical team rules, btw).

Joseff was right on the mark (I've said this before): this is becoming the WWF of racing. Montoya seems wiser by the minute: if you have some decency left in you, the only acceptable behaviour is to resign to this long cruel joke called the 2006 F1 championship. As I see it, nothing justifies this kind of "because I said so" behaviour: FIA/FOM owes a BIG explanation here. I brace myself for the final races of this year. I bet Tomba is going to need additional server space, at this pace.

But some fans seems to think that a "Period" is enough. Simpler people = happier lifes.

And a very good question by Tano again:

"If Alonso was impending Massa: where were the blue flags?"

C'mon, Lightspeed, we are waiting for an explanation for this last one... I promess I'll frame your answer.

Well, race starts in 5 minutes. I take my herbal tea (I know I am gonna need it) and go, like a lamb to the slaughter house, to see the "race".

Just to be fair, I think Max does make a point - the penalty was for 'impeding' not 'blocking' - and if your wake disrupts the aerodynamics of a car behind then you're guilty. And that's something you can only see on the data.

IMHO (well it's not humble!) the penalty does seem harsh - as to whether or not a penalty is deserved at all I can't say without seeing the data. However, it was a stupid decision to send Alonso out with so little time to go. He was hard pushed out finished his out lap and the risk of potential getting in someone else's way was quite high.

ON another note, why the hell did Brundell waste time asking Brawn twice about MSC rather than asking about the Alonso thing?

FOR GODS SAKE WHY CANT ITV STOP TALKING ABOUT MSC'S RETIREMENT????

At this rate I want him to say "I'll tell you in a few weeks" this evening!

Sorry. Rant.

Max made it veryclear that if you dont have the data at hand then you are stupid and have no understanding of F1.

Everyone ex-drivers and current drivers are saying its rubbish and i take they view alot more than anyone else in the world as they have sat and driven these cars and know alot more.

Yeah. Shame the penalty was against the rules.

If Alonso is this fast when everything against him, Ferrari should be very, VERY, scared in the last races. I wonder what FIA comes up with next. They have to do something to save the title for their special child.

Three cheers for Michael.

He is not the perfect person we'd like him to be, but he is one of the finest race drivers ever to turn a wheel.

I wish him the best for the rest of this season and whatever he chooses to do next.
