I don't understand why people call 2005 a Schumi vs Alonso rivalry.

Everyone who followed that season knew the Ferrari/bridgestone was nowhere and Schumi was in the firing line for getting tangled up in the mid-pack.
People become desperate and even FIA were desperate to end Schumy's domination back then
So people tend to say such things or would like to say such things back then,
but why still go on about it? just to belittle Schumy and his achievements

Well, 2006 saw a great rivalry between the two, with perhaps the first seeds of that being sewn in Imola 2005.

But yeah, 2005 was really ALO vs. RAI, and 2006 was MSC vs. ALO. I think the latter was fantastic, a really shame it came down to (un)reliability in the last two races.

Raikkonen Vs Alonso in 2005 and Hakkinen Vs MSC in 1998. Still remember that amazing 2005 Japanese GP.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Alonso had already clinched the championship by Japan 2005; great race as it was, for me the fact that the title was already decided takes away the "rivalry" part of that one, no to mention that they were kind of out of synch with each other's recovery drives, so not really directly competing.

The Spa 2000 race is well known for Hakkinen's overtake, but it also featured a great section of the race where they were trading fastest times, culminating with Mika making a slight error resulting in a small spin. I really enjoyed that part of the race because of the way the two were pushing and, in Hak's case, exceeding the limits of grip on the drying track, something we don't really see much with the current tyres/fuel loads.

Nothing will ever come close to Nelson vs Mansell in 86-87, imagine your team-mate calling your legally wed "ugly", that's war.

As a french Canadian myself, I really enjoyed the Jacques vs Michael rivalry of '97. Then came the great Mika vs Michael, Kimi vs Michael & Fernando vs Michael rivalries, which were fun to watch also.

Been watching the 2003 season again recently and MSC vs. Montoya was a great rivalry. Raikkonen ended up 2nd in the championship, but it was Montoya who was going to wheel-to-wheel with Michael on track and trading fastest laps with him (see Monza 2003 for an example of both). Kimi was consistent but didn't have a good enough car really and only won one race.

But Montoya and Schumacher was a great rivalry, both pushing to the limit, neither conceeding a single inch when in close competition.
