A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Last sunday I was at Spa and after the race I took some pics of the Lotus and McLaren (the Ferrari was shielded by Marshalls, no possibility to take any pictures of that car :S ).

Great shots thankyou.

Seems to be some holes in the floor just after the bargeboard that aren't in the step plane. (Right click-view image)

The side of the diffuser is very interesting. It's metal, the edge is a curve and the edge is also curled upwards. Never seen that before.

Lotus's exhaust isn't directed there.

I think the diffuser metal is a scrap of the left whee brake assembly..

E20 still has roll hoop intakes. Why?
Fernando Alonso is the best pay-to-drive driver in F1 with the biggest amount of money behind him.

They are permanently bonded to the chassis, so Lotus can not simply replace engine cover and remove roll hoop inlets as Mercedes did. Fortunately they provide some benefits by routing the air in the beam wing area.

Or just metal to survive a puncture?

Makes sense. Protects the sides of the floor.

I wonder the reason why Lotus goes with that particular exhaust setup. They did race the forward facing exhausts, they must have learned something that caused them to pursue that route as opposed to all the other top teams.
