Why Singapore is a crap Racing Circuit?

Post

Here are some of my views about the Singapore Grand Prix.
Just wanted to figure how much consensus there is about this among fans (or am I the only one that thinks like this). Don't mean to be derogatory or infumigative.

I think there is positive changes that can be made, some to give it a more high speed element to the track, some changes that would make it more flowing as its too Valencia and stop start to me. However land ownership issues make these changes very hard and almost impossible to make.

I love it. Looks spectacular from above and street circuits is always nice to see the driver´s laying it all on the line against the walls.

I wish though that they made T11 (after micky mouse) less of a corner and instead a faster right/left flick to create a bigger overtaking opportunity down to T12.

other than Monaco it's the only track that is so unforgiving...I give it a thumbs up for that and being a night race....offsets a lot of the crap.

I agree about it being uncompromising; requiring precission; spectacular looking, especially at night and all that, but ultimately... It's --- boring! The track layout is just *dull*, they're 100% right that it's *all* 90° corners. The only exception are the last two corners, which really are taken as one (you guessed it) 90° corner.

I can't say I really agree or disagree, but I have to take issue with one point. When comparing Singapore to Monaco, it says that Monaco is better because of history...Well if this is an element you use to judge how good a track is, then there cannot be any new tracks. Make a good track, and the history will come as time goes

Edit: spelling

I also disagree with that way of thinking.

Especially when the historic track was totally different lol.

And Singapore is a better (i.e. more exciting) track than Monaco.

I do agree that it's demanding for the drivers and that the cars look nice in the night and everything; however, as a track, it's just dull, and if it wasn't for all the crashing and safety cars it makes racing dull. Singapore and Valencia are perhaps the only F1 tracks in which it's really hard to tell which part of the track you are racing in (well...in sims anyway). None of these tracks can be compared to Monaco. It's not about the history, it's all about the layout.

Agreed, but that hardly takes much, does it. Monaco is a --- box that only stays because of $$$$

The changes id make are as follows:

1) Make the Raffles Blvd straight longer and go around the War Memorial like in the original track layout plan: http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns19001.html

2) Make turn 10 a more sweeping corner, but make it tight corner, but there is another alternative, take a right half way along the Padang and go around the courthouse and then blast along to the fullerton bridge.

3) the other change is that the stadium section exit should be a blast along to the final corner, but id like to see the exit go down the current escape road, and down to where Glock went off in FP3 today for a sharp hairpin. Makes it mickey mouse to a point, but safe for a blast around the last corner.

4) Last corner needs to be made more sweeping with a better pit entry thats wider and better than the present one. The final corner here should be a 200kph 5th gear balls the the wall commitment corner that will give the lap time if you ask it to and if you don't commit you will loose time. Im thinking something like Copse here would be freaking brilliant.

I think driving Monaco would be way more exciting. Tighter and elevations and a tunnel which is always nice :)
Also the high speed chicane is great.

Not towards you but it seems many judge racetracks based on entertainment or how much action it is on TV rather then getting an idea of how it is to actually drive the track.

Like Valencia, "boring" as hell on TV but from what i can see on onboards i think the layout seems pretty enjoyable really.

I was under the impression Monaco was the only place where it was free?
Basically no fee to Bernie because of the history and spectacle.

Meaning, "because Bernie already gets a lot of cash from them and sponsors via other routes anyway".
