The Guardian are also reporting on the Hamilton move : http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2012/se ... formulaone

This has all the hallmarks of a planned and embargoed "leak" from a well versed promotions team ... the manner of this non-announcement has XIX's fingerprints all over it, which makes me rather sad : I like my drivers as sportsmen, not celebrities.

Another intersting quote out of the latest Autosport article regarding the switches.
Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm was seen in lengthy talks with Sauber at last weekend's Singapore Grand Prix, and there will be a vacancy with Sergio Perez set to become Hamilton's replacement at McLaren.

Schumi to partner Algersuari at Sauber then?

There were stories going around that he will be out of Sauber next year anyhow. Cant remember where I read it

I bet Ecclestone is rubbing his hands and revelling in near-orgasmic levels of glee.

Alonso/Ferrari vs. Hamilton/Mercedes. From a commercial POV, it doesn't get any better than this.

Oh, and Schu, I think it's best to accept the inevitable and retire.

What CHT said, really. I'd argue that in F1 context, McLaren - Ferrari is a bigger rivalry than Ferrari - Mercedes

Because you are an F1 fan. Outside of F1 McLaren is virtually unknown.

Mercedes is one of the biggest names in automotive history, as is Ferrari. Even housewives in Iowa know both.

A carefully staged rivalry between them will make F1 more accessible to an even larger audience.

Schumacher is better known than Lewis Hamilton - Housewives in Arkansas would know of Michael Schumacher. They won't know who Hamilton is. Alonso/Ferrari vs. Schumacher/Mercedes would be a better advertising board based on your logic.

The real big winners here are Vettel and Alonso. They must be very excited by this move - no offence to Button or Perez, but McLaren just lost a lot of one lap pace.

Edit: Perez is also a big winner of course

I don't see how. He hasn't betrayed, was betrayed. He wasn't given well earned no 1 status alongisde Button. The only time he had clear no 1 status in the team he delivered and won the title. It's McLaren's loss really. They won't be title contenders without him.

Yes, it would be. But Schu has failed to deliver.

And Hamilton is very well-known in Arkansas. He's that guy they saw in People Magazine with that Pussycat Doll singer. When was Schu in People Magazine?
