Sorry guys, I am at odds with these odds :)

Even if McLaren do not put a foot wrong, after the facts are known, the atmosphere is not the same. The motivation is not the same. Ferrari are unaffected by all this and therefore I thinks chances of Alonso winning are greater.

Please someone translate this using the "odds" word. I mean I don't know whether odds increase or increase. I use English all my life but never happened to get into gambling terminology (if this has anything to do with gambling).

It might. Yours sounds like wishful thinking to me. But to each his own.
And yours sound like some retarded conspiracy theory that has less weight to it then if people landed on the moon.

Whoever leaves next year is irrelevant to what is going on today.

Mate I'm not trying to attack your stance here. I'm just saying that from my perspective it sounded like wishful thinking. Why are you being so hostile?

A team that wins the WDC has no benefits other than the marketability of the guy in the year after, and the prestige, but then the prestige will go to Merc as they can have the number 1 on the car, rather than Mclaren. Once Hamilton dons his Mercedes gear in 2013 it makes no difference to McLaren whether or not he won the 2012 WDC. I have a more cynical view, that's all - I don't think that it will just be business as usual in the last 6 flyaways.

Ron Dennis also doesn't have a history of maintaining bridges with ex-drivers, to memory.

Hostile? I was the one saying ok, fair enough we don´t see eye to eye.
then you said wishful thinking which to me is crazy talk compared to what you presented yourself.

Obviously there´s a HUGE benefit in being either WCC or WDC champions in terms of sponsors.
Who cares who won it, the fact is you got it, it´s etched in stone, you won the 2012 championships.

To even come with the idea that they would in some shape or form try to slow Hamilton down to not win a title is ridiculous.

Who said that? Because I sure as hell didn't.

So mine was crazy talk to you. Yours was to me too. We're two different people with very different upbringings - probably in different continents. It's very possible that one man's crazy is another man's honest opinion.

Yes, but they generally sponsor the WDC, rather than the team that he won it with (ie they'd go with Hamilton and sponsor him at Mercedes, rather than sponsor McLaren FOR powering Lewis to the championship)

For a team WCC points is what matters.

from now on I am pretty sure Lewis will not be given further briefing about any Mclaren technical development and Mclaren is not going to expect must input from a driver who is leaving for rival team either. So it will purely be a employee and employer relationship, and the atmosphere will not be easy for a driver literally grew up in Mclaren.

On the surface, Mclaren might want us to think that their relationship with Lewis is "normal", but deep down, I believe things must have gotten so sour that the departure of LH is becoming a positive morale booster for the team.

I am looking forward to see how Mclaren will run their race strategy for the remaining races. but my gut feel is that Mclaren is unlikely to be looking forward to celebrating too many race victories or worst new WDC glory with a driver that is leaving for Merc. It just does make any sense from business point of view.

Because in my view the primary benefits of winning the WDC go away. Sure you have the prestige - but that's about it. They wouldn't even carry the number 1 anymore - and all the marketability the reigning world champion would bring.
And what about all that juicy money that comes with coming first?

the team only get more money for winning the WCC, not WDC. And the difference between WCC and runner up is not enough to pay for LH salary.

Are you guys seriously suggesting that McLaren will lose some motivation to make Hamilton WDC? Craziness. Whatever happens after this year, a Hamilton WDC for McLaren this year is something McLaren will always have on their resume. If I recall correctly they have 12 WDCs to Ferrari's 15. Don't you think they want to get to number one?

I would be utterly shocked if they chuck it away. Frankly if they do so then Hamilton was damn right to leave.

To win ALL remaining races LH will need the team to make him the no.1 driver at the expense of JB and it will be most unthinkable for any team to do that for a driver that is leaving for a rival team.

I think what Mclaren should eye for now is the WCC instead of LH WDC.

mclaren could push even harder for Lewis to win WDC just to show him and whole world that he made stupid move when he left Mclaren.

McLaren doesnt need that kind of motivation to do everything to help Hamilton win the title. They are a racing team, and at any given point will want an additional WDC irrespective of who wins it for them, and irrespective if their newly crowned champion takes off to another team. That has always been, and will continue to be their motivation.
