CoTA prohibits long camera lenses. What next?

Post

CoTA have today noted that they will not accept cameras with detachable lenses longer than 10 inches (25cm)
CoTA wrote:Patrons with still cameras featuring detachable lenses smaller than 10 inches in length WILL BE permitted on site during the Grand Prix event. However, detachable camera lenses longer than 10 inches will be prohibited.
Has anybody heard of any such regulation at any other Grand Prix circuit?
Is this a step to see cameras further limited at all circuits?

Sounds like a method of protecting pro photographers... They've set it at exactly the right length to ban the popular canon 300mm lenses, which any ameteur or semi-pro will be trying to use.

Guns, that is what. You can hide stuff in the lenses. And when President Obama is coming to the race..

what n smikle says sounds stupid but I believe that being the reason.

Americans are just so afraid of terrorism that any little thing that would be plausible to do so will be excluded. But you can still sit there with bombs around your waist and blow the whole thing up if you want to. A stupid measure, but that just seems to be how america works.

N Smikle is correct. Camera lenses are a well known way of hiding illegal items.

They are afraid that if you bring a long lens into the circuit, an army apache longbow is going to cause devastation to that person....

I've been to events that ban lenses larger than 300mm which isn't so bad.

I wonder if the hired guy on the gate would recognise a 200mm fitted to an extender? My x2 isn't that obvious when fitted and would easily slip into the corner of a bag unnoticed when not fitted. That would give 400mm equivalent although it slows the overall lens down a little...always a way around petty rules 8)

O.o, does that mean digital cameras are too, given that most modern ones will do ISO 1,280,000?

Which is the reason i was wondering if FS was being sarcastic. If this is true, then all digital SLRs will be prohibited, which makes the detachable lens and focal length restrictions a moot point.

There is no mention of ISO restrictions for cameras, only the size (not focal length) of detachable lenses are restricted. So an f200mm with a teleconverter should be fine if the overall length is restricted to 10 inches. No tripods allowed. So is any form of video recording.

I was just trying to be funny (while not sober). No, digital cameras are not banned (I think). But how retro would that be, only analog photography allowed!!! People would (have to) print their photos again. I have digital pictures of F1 testing Montmelo 2010, never printed them, maybe Im should #-o .

Isn't video recording everywhere forbidden? But it can't be controlled and enforced. I mean everything shoots videos today, from Digital SLRs to makeup mirrors.
