On the back of my Canadian GP ticket it says

"You must not make/create/store/record/transmit any kind of sound recording/visual footage/audio-visual footage/information/other data. Equipment that may enable you to do the aforementioned acts is not permitted. Personal electronic devices including still image cameras/mobile telephones/ other handheld personal communications devices are permitted provided that any images/films/recording/data that are created/recorded/stored thereon are used for personal/private/non commercial use only."

I was surprised to see this thread, as I just assumed this was policy at every GP since it seems it would be FOM that would be concerned with cameras, not really the circuits themselves.

The circuits are charged with enforcing FOM's rules. FOM doesn't employ people to sit at the gate, take tickets, and make sure nobody's bringing a Red One in their backpack. The venue does.

Well, I started the thread because I was surprised by the actual restriction on lens size.
I am well aware of the disclaimer you post above, it's the same at every venue that I have been personally, but never had I seen a lens size restriction.

In fact, everywhere you go, be it Monza, Spa, Hockenheim, whatever, there's guys with big Canon L lenses on the edges of the grandstands. Those guys won't be happy if they cannot enter with their loved equipment.

There's also this strange rule with drinks and the pitlane walk. Sometimes drinks are allowed, some years they arent. First time Hockenheim it was a no-no, 2 years later it was fine. At Spa it was ok always, except for this year. Some consistency across the venues would do some good.

London 2012 also had a rule banning "Large photographic and broadcast equipment over 30cm in length". Its in a list of big things, and they recommend a bag no bigger than 25 litres so it could be fitted under a seat. So I took that to be sensible rules to avoid bulky items getting in the way in crowded spaces.

They did not ban video cameras either.

I saw some seriously expensive kit, 30cm is generous for individual items.

The rules regarding cameras were posted on the Austin GP thread. It says that cameras with a detachable lens are not allowed. So any SLR/DSLR is outlawed then...

US fans can basically take a simple, point-and-shoot style, non-video digital or film camera and that's it.

Which is just ridiculous.
